Job Summary
Position Summary
Oakland Countys Department of Information Technology is seeking a Mainframe Operator to support enterprise infrastructure operations and serve as a Level 1 Incident Manager for critical technology incidents and service disruptions. This role is responsible for monitoring enterprise systems responding to incidents maintaining operational awareness across infrastructure services and supporting IBM Mainframe environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong monitoring troubleshooting and communication skills while working effectively with IT staff vendors and business stakeholders in a 24x7 operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a Level 1 Incident Manager for critical IT incidents and operational events.
- Create escalate triage track and document technology-related incidents.
- Monitor enterprise infrastructure services and connectivity using graphical monitoring tools.
- Monitor IBM Mainframe control consoles and review system performance metrics.
- Respond to operational alerts outages service interruptions and infrastructure issues.
- Coordinate communication between IT teams customers vendors and support personnel during incident response activities.
- Maintain awareness of system availability uptime and performance across enterprise environments.
- Assist with reviewing and validating Mainframe Job Control Language (JCL) processes.
- Perform operational tasks deliveries and routine support functions as assigned.
- Escalate incidents appropriately to technical support teams based on operational procedures.
- Maintain incident documentation and operational records.
- Support continuous system availability and operational stability initiatives.
- Follow established operational standards incident management processes and service management procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Experience supporting enterprise operational environments and infrastructure monitoring.
- Experience monitoring and troubleshooting IT systems networks servers or mainframe environments.
- Strong incident management and problem-resolution skills.
- Ability to quickly assess prioritize and escalate critical operational incidents.
- Experience using enterprise monitoring and alerting tools.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in IBM Mainframe environments.
- Experience reviewing or validating Job Control Language (JCL).
- Experience supporting enterprise operations centers or network operations centers.
- Familiarity with infrastructure monitoring and availability management processes.
- Experience supporting 24x7 operational environments.
- Knowledge of service management and incident management best practices.
