Job Purpose: Machinist II is responsible for setting up programming operating and maintaining both CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture and repair components used in the production of road paving equipment. This position requires the ability to work independently from blueprints and drawings perform program modifications maintain tolerances and produce high quality parts in a low-volume high-mix manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions

  1. Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools to manufacture production and one-off components.
  2. Create and modify machining programs for new and existing parts. (G-code and conversational programming)
  3. Revise existing programs to accommodate engineering changes and part revisions.
  4. Calculate appropriate feeds speeds tooling selections and cutting parameters based on material and machining requirements.
  5. Read and interpret blueprints engineering drawings and work instructions.
  6. Maintain tolerances as precise as -.001
  7. Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment (calipers Micrometers bore gauges indicators etc.)
  8. Troubleshoot machine issues and make process adjustments to improve quality and efficiency.
  9. Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move materials and finished components.
  10. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  11. Work closely with engineering fabrication and production personnel to support manufacturing operations.
  12. Follow all company safety policies and quality standards.
  13. Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned to meet business and operational needs.

Qualifications and Requirements:To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.   1. 1-3 years machine shop with CNC machines or equivalent technical training/certification generally required. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Ability to read and interpret documents such as job orders procedure manuals and schematics (blueprints).
  3. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to maintain good attendance.
  5. Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to co-workers management vendors suppliers and customers.
  6. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers management suppliers and customers.
  7. Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.
  8. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
  9. Skill in the fabrication joining and repair of a variety of metal objects equipment fixtures and structures.
  10. Ability to use department equipment such as forklift ladder/scaffold overhead crane and power tools.

  1. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand bend kneel climb stairs and walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The employee must seldom lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. If lifting over 50 pounds employees should utilize a jib overhead crane or ask for assistance from other team members. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  2. The work environment is usually an indoor setting with frequent exposure to outside elements. The noise level in the work environment is frequently addition other elements that an employee could be exposed to occasionally in this work environment are but not limited to; dust dirt fumes and odors mechanical and electrical hazards fire hazards and an elevated workplace. This position requires infrequent travel which may involve exposure to extreme weather elements.
