Salary - Certified Massachusetts Teacher Per Diem Rate $230.00 per day
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal to improve studentproficiencyrates inEnglish language acquisition. TheELTeacher will provide direct interventions to students in support of school-wide literacyand languageacquisitionplans goals and benchmarks while continuallymonitoringstudent progress to improve instructional practice and student outcomes. Requires excellent organizational skills strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Essential FunctionsDevelops and administerslanguageacquisitioncurriculum consistent with school district goals a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiencesso as tobestutilizethe available time for instruction
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning andmodifiesinstructional methods to fit individual students needs; conducts individual and small group instruction
- Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
- Continues toacquireprofessional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminarsworkshopsor professional meetings or by conducting research.
- Organizes andmaintainsa system foraccurateand complete record-keeping grading and reporting for all student activities achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the schools standards and school districtpolicies andestablishes andmaintainsstandards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members especially within grade level to evaluate and assess curriculum andparticipatesin faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects andrequisitionsappropriate books instructional aids and other supplies and equipment andmaintainsinventory records. Supervises students in activities that take placeoutof the classroom during the school day including activities involving school transportation.
- Administers standardized testsin accordance withDistrict testing programs.
Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computersprinter copy and fax machines andtelephone.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings asrequired.
KnowledgeSkillsand Abilities
- Knowledge of current best practices and educational pedagogy as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts related to literacyand languageaquisition
- Knowledge of data information systems dataanalysisand the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state lawsregardingeducation and students.
- Ability to use computer networksystemand software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional toestablishand maintain cooperative working relationships withothers contactedin the course of work.
Qualifications Profile
- MA State Certification as an ESLTeacherpreferred.
Education
- Bachelorsfrom an accredited college or university in Elementary and/or Early Childhood Education or related discipline applicable to teachingassignment.
- MastersDegree in relatedareapreferred.
Experience
Successful priorteachingexperience for theappropriate gradelevels preferred.
