QUALIFICATIONS:

Required by law:

- Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferably in a K-3 setting

- Sufficient knowledge of evidence-based reading research

- Special expertise in quality reading instruction (and infusing reading strategies into content-area instruction)

- A minimum of a bachelors degree and advanced coursework in reading or have completed professional development in research-based literacy instruction strategies

Preferred knowledge or experience:

- Advanced degree in reading/literacy

- Working knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support

- Background in creating and evaluating successful Title I programs

- Knowledge of current state literacy standards for students in grades K-3

- Previous experience training or presenting information to educators

- One-to-one or group educator coaching experience

- Successful implementation of various literacy programs strategies and models

- Ability to breakdown and analyze data in relation to the MTSS process and instructional decision making

- Experience with a range of benchmarking and screening assessments in the area of literacy

- Working knowledge of Google Drive Gmail and calendar

- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with school staff

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Model effective instructional strategies for teachers

- Facilitate study groups

- Coach and mentor colleagues

- Provide districtwide oversight and leadership for the implementation of Michigans dyslexialegislation including Public Act 146 and ensure instructional practices assessmentsinterventions documentation and professional learning align with state requirements.

- Train teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction

- Work with teachers to ensure that evidence-based reading programs (such as comprehensive core reading programs supplemental reading programs and comprehensive interventionreading programs) are implemented with fidelity

- Train teachers to diagnose and address reading deficiency

- Help increase instruction density

- Help lead and support reading leadership teams at the school

- Continue to increase his or her own knowledge base in best practices in reading instruction and intervention

- Model and coach whole- and small-group instruction with students for teachers in grades K to 3
