BASIC FUNCTION:Under direction of the Principal operate a school library independently and provide technical library media services related to the circulation distribution and recovery of library books and other materials; process and shelve library materials and assist students and faculty in the selection of library/media materials. This position is subject to the provisions of the No Child Left Behind DUTIES:Assist students and teachers in locating and selecting materials and in researching information for special reports and classroom assignments; provide instruction to students in proper use of instructional resources. Check books and materials in and out at the circulation desk; calculate fines and send overdue notices; contact parents and students regarding late and lost library receive and process library and media materials; ensure orders are complete and in good condition; catalog books periodicals pamphlets and audio-visual materials using the Dewey Decimal System; prepare library cards including cross-references and shelf and schedule library services and activities; work with teachers to ensure students have adequate time for research and special projects; assist teachers in ordering instructional materials; maintain catalogs and lists of new materials student discipline in the and provide work direction to students involved in shelving books and media materials and in circulation records related to circulation purchase orders and lost damaged and overdue library materials; prepare periodic reports as requested; maintain library files catalogs and vendor displays exhibits and bulletin and maintain inventory of school assigned audio-visual equipment as required; perform routine maintenance on audio-visual equipment; receive and distribute County film organize and conduct Book Fairs and related fund-raising and discard or mend damaged books and materials according to established a variety of equipment including typewriter copier audio-visual equipment and computer equipment as required by the assignment; ensure library equipment is in proper operating DUTIES:Coordinate special testing of students; coordinate with teachers regarding make-up tests for in receiving processing and distributing textbooks as meetings in-services and workshops as related duties as AND ABILITIES:KNOWLEDGE OF:Library terminology services and library processes including the acquisition cataloging circulation and related Decimal classification reference materials and of standard office machines microcomputers and audio-visual skills using tact patience and English usage grammar spelling punctuation and office practices procedures and -keeping principles of training and providing work TO:Operate a school library independently and provide library/media services related to the circulation distribution and recovery of library books and other and explain library rules regulations and and process library and media assistance information and recommendations to students and organize and schedule library receive inspect and shelve instructional materials and order and acceptable student behavior in the a variety of standard office machines personal computers and audio-visual and demonstrate the use of modern library computer equipment as required by the and maintain records files lists and library in a neat and orderly independently with little schedules and time effectively both orally and in subtract multiply and divide and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from high schoolCollege-level course work in library science or closely related fieldTwo years of increasingly responsible library clerical experience including some experience in cataloging materials processing and reference of two years of higher education study OR possession of an Associates or higher level degree OR pass assessment that demonstrates knowledge of and the ability to assist in teaching reading writing and mathematics OR reading writing and mathematics : Incumbents hired prior to January 8 2002 will have until January 8 2006 to comply with the college or assessment CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: School library environment.
