Job Summary

Hours: (approx. 25 hours/week): Mondays 8:45am-5pm Tuesdays 8:45am-12:45pm Wednesdays 12:45-9:15pm Alternate Saturdays 8:45am-5:15pm 1st Sunday of the month 11am-5:15pm



Job Purpose:Under the general direction of the Manager and Assistant Manager of Customer Service maintains stacks and positively assists patrons with inquiries and daily use of the library.

Reports to:Manager of Customer Service

Responsibilities:

Sort organize and reshelve materials in their appropriate areas throughout the library.

Straighten and shift materials on the shelves.

Read assigned shelves send items in poor condition to relevant areas.

Performs customer service duties; check materials in and out issue library cards answer questions assist with self-checkout shelve and process holds and other items when necessary contact patrons

Empty the book drop on a regular basis as assigned; check in the items emptied from the book drop

Collects and processes hold list and marks items appropriately.

Perform readers advisory.

Separate sort and deliver daily mail as assigned.

Help maintain the overall neatness of the Library (i.e. toys trash on tables stray books).

Assist patrons with the Library catalog public computers Internet databases and Microsoft applications and locating materials as necessary.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Provides excellent customer service and strive to end each interaction with patrons in a positive manner.

Assist with setups in the library as needed.

Perform ILL duties as assigned.

Collect fines and manage cash register; count money.

Process transit bins both incoming and outgoing to other libraries.

Select and maintain displays/themes for assigned end caps.

Take minutes at meetings as assigned.

Dust shelves as needed.

Provide Quick Reference.

Regular attendance as scheduled and performing tasks as assigned are essential job

functions.

Qualifications:

  1. Library experience preferred.
  2. Strong customer service skills; must be able to deal with the public in gracious and professional manner.
  3. Good knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of business English spelling and arithmetic and ability to alphabetize.
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and patrons.
  6. Minimum of 16 years of age.
  7. Basic knowledge of Windows based computer and internet searching applications.
  8. Good communication skills and pleasant demeanor in person and on the telephone.
  9. Must be able to work in a public service area that is busy sometimes noisy and with frequent interruptions.
  10. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to retrieve library materials from stacks or shelving carts for patrons quickly and easily. Must be able to lift heavy books and push a full book cart.
  11. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
  12. Be willing to work with and around people of all ages.
  13. Be willing to acquire knowledge of new technology available in the library and the ability to translate that knowledge to patrons and fellow staff members.
  14. Ability to work independently.
