The Lead Testing Engineer will lead the design development and integration of test software and hardware that enables testing of aviation power equipment in both R&D and production this role you will partner closely with product design and manufacturing teams to ensure our products are highly testable reliable and ready to transition efficiently from development into manufacturing.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys software and electrical design test system development and cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

At GE Aerospace in Dayton OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for our Electric Power and Propulsion business. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as hybrid electric power systems the latest military power platforms and highly efficient legacy / commercial AC power systems as seen on the F-18 and the new Boeing 777X. Plus if you like hands-on work there is also a 155000 sq ft lab that includes 7 high power test cells totaling 15 MW an EMI chamber an electronics lab a rapid build prototype lab and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

The Advanced Technology Organization is responsible for driving growth through technology by researching customer needs both met and unmet then finding solutions. Our team supports both military and commercial customers in land sea and air domains.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities

Design and develop test software and hardware

  • Developand enhance modular reusable test architecturesfor manufacturing and engineering design and build verification.
  • Develop test software for interfacing with large amounts of equipment and electrical signals using NI LabVIEW and TestStand.
  • Design test equipment components fixtures and adapters using AutoCAD Electrical Altium and/or Siemens NX.

Collaborate across Engineering and Manufacturing

  • Work closely withProduct Design EngineersandManufacturing Engineersto ensure atestable productis developed.
  • Influence product design toincrease reliability test coverage and manufacturability.
  • Make recommendations fordesign and process improvementsbased on test findings and engineering judgment.

Plan and execute test hardware projects

  • Define and implementproject plans managemilestones and conductdesign and readiness reviewsto ensure reliable test systems are delivered on time.
  • Manage project deliverables to meetschedule quality and performancerequirements.

Own test documentation and analysis

  • Complete the formal release process for test equipment design documents
  • Writetest equipment design / verification plansequipment operation procedures andtest reportsaligned to product requirements.
  • Investigatetest failures perform root-cause analysis andcommunicate and execute corrective actionswith stakeholders.

Support test operations and automation

  • Work withtest equipmentincluding thermal chambers oil carts chillers data acquisition systems cDAQ / PXI systems pressure controllers DMMs oscilloscopes and related lab equipment.
  • Apply knowledge ofphysical sensors(voltage current pressure acceleration flow temperature) in fixture and test setup design.
  • Support and/or lead efforts toautomate processes and testingto improve manufacturing yields and reduce production time.
  • Support thetransition of products from development to manufacturingthrough robust test solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degreein Engineering or related technical field from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering and/or test engineering role

  • Masters degreein Electrical Engineering Computer Science Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • A minimum of 2 yearsof experience usingLabVIEW
  • A minimum of 2 yearsof experience usingTestStand
  • A minimum of 2 yearsof experience working withR&D and manufacturing engineeringteams
  • A minimum of 3 yearsof experience supportingtest automation and/or test system developmentto transition products from development to manufacturing
  • Knowledge ofphysical sensors such as current transducers pressure transducers accelerometers flowmeters temperature sensors
  • Experience withlarge complex test equipment including thermal chambers oil carts chillers data acquisition systems cDAQ / PXI systems pressure controllers digital multimeters oscilloscopes and other common lab/test instruments
  • Experience designingtest fixtures and software for functional circuit card testing
  • Experience developing circuit card manufacturing test strategies to ensure test coverage of all circuits during the build process
  • Experienceautomating processes and testingto improve manufacturing yields and reduce production time
  • Experience with testinghigh voltage high power electrical systems
  • Strongproject managementandcommunicationskills with the ability to coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams
