As a Lead Engineer within Digital Enablement you serve as the technical anchor for the engineering team building and supporting the platforms tools and reliability frameworks that help teams deliver scalable digital experiences. You own the application architecture ensuring it meets functional and non-functional needs and identify and drive architectural changes that accelerate delivery and improve reliability and operational efficiency. You bring deep and broad engineering expertise while acting as a force multiplier: setting technical direction establishing reusable engineering patterns and guiding partner teams through complex distributed-systems challenges. You use automation and best practices to strengthen the stability of Targets digital ecosystem.

The Digital Enablement team builds and supports the foundational platforms tools and reliability frameworks that empower Targets digital product teams to deliver high-quality guest experiences at scale. We focus on improving engineering efficiency operational excellence and system reliability across the digital ecosystem.

Our team partners closely with engineers across the enterprise to provide modern deployment tooling observability frameworks and best-in-class reliability practices that enable teams to innovate quickly while maintaining a highly resilient production environment. We work at the intersection of software engineering cloud infrastructure and site reliability driving standards automation and proactive problem-solving to ensure Targets digital platforms remain fast stable and scalable.

Use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain. Evaluate new technologies and participates in decision-making accounting for several factors such as viability within Targets technical environment maintainability and cost of ownership. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies. Lead or set strategy for testing and debugging at the platform or enterprise complex and unstructured situations serve as an expert resource to create and improve standards and best practices to ensure high-performance scalable repeatable and secure deliverables. Lead the design lifecycle management and total cost of ownership of services. Provide the team with thought leadership to promote re-use and develop consistent scalable patterns. Participate in planning services that have enterprise impact. Provide suggestions for handling routine and moderately complex technical problems escalating issues when appropriate. Gather information data and input from a wide variety of sources; identify additional resources when appropriate engage with appropriate stakeholders and conduct in-depth analysis of information. Provide suggestions for handling routine and moderately complex technical problems escalating issues when appropriate. Develop plans and schedules estimate resource requirements and define milestones and deliverables. Monitor workflow and risks; play a leadership role in mitigating risks and removing obstacles. Lead and participate in complex construction automation and implementation activities ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements met. Establish new standards and best practices to monitor test automate and maintain IT components or systems. Serve as an expert resource in disaster recovery and disaster recovery planning. Stay current with Targets technical capabilities infrastructure and technical environment. Develop fully attributed data models including logical physical and canonical. Influence data standards policies and procedures. Install configure and/or tune data management solutions with minimal guidance. Monitor data management solution(s) and identify optimization opportunities.

About you:

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience

7 years of software engineering experience including delivering and supporting production systems through a full development lifecycle

Experience leading technical design and architecture for scalable reliable services APIs or developer platforms

Strong programming experience in Go TypeScript/ or comparable languages and frameworks

Experience building and operating production-grade APIs backend services developer tooling or platform capabilities for digital web systems

2 years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices including hands-on experience authoring and maintaining GitHub Actions workflows

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS GCP or Azure and containerized applications on platforms such as Kubernetes

Understanding of web delivery and CDN concepts including caching traffic routing and edge configuration

Experience with observability practices including logs metrics and distributed tracing and using them to improve system reliability and performance

Demonstrated ability to set technical direction influence engineering decisions and mentor engineers across teams

Strong communication analytical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications

Deep experience building and operating production services or developer tooling in Go and TypeScript/

Experience building reusable GitHub Actions custom actions or large-scale CI/CD pipelines

Experience with CDN platforms such as Fastly including VCL or edge logic configuration

Experience designing APIs SDKs or platform capabilities consumed by multiple engineering teams

Experience with progressive deployment strategies such as canary blue/green or red/black deployments

Experience with secrets management certificate lifecycle management or software supply chain security

Experience with high-traffic web systems or e-commerce platform architecture

Experience establishing engineering standards and practices for reliability operational readiness and disaster recovery

Interest in or experience with developer experience tooling AI-assisted development workflows or internal platform engineering

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Targets needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team members core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually depending upon what your role team and tasks require for that day.
