Job Summary

Summary

This position is located at Phoenix Indian Medical Center Phoenix AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to function as the Lead Health Benefits Coordinator assuring the identification of patients who are eligible for alternate resources. The incumbent provides support and technical assistance to Benefit Coordinators and Business Representatives various clinical and business office disciplines..

A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7 2025 in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).


Duties

  • Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Creates and maintains on-going changes on written processes.
  • Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload and assures that each employee has enough work to keep busy.
  • Assures maximal identification of persons who have or are eligible for alternate resources by implementing screening in and interviewing methods effectively.
  • Verifies eligibility of patients by contacting the nearest SSA or Department of Social Services (DSS) Office or State Medical Assistance Office.
  • Maintains a tracking system of pending applications for various Medicare or Medicaid programs to ensure the enrollment of patient to said programs.

    Background Investigation Requirement:

    This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.

    A background investigation is a standard process used by the Federal Government to verify an individuals identity employment history education and other relevant information to determine suitability for Federal service.

    Upon receipt of instructions applicants must complete all required background investigation forms within five (5) calendar days of issuance. Timely completion is critical to avoid delays in processing or a determination of unsuitability.

    Applicants are strongly encouraged to prioritize this requirement and to maintain regular communication with their assigned Personnel Security Specialist throughout the process.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    GS:
    Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Apply rules procedures and regulations. Identify patient eligibility for alternate resources and management of patient resources and compliance. Distributing and balancing workload among employees instructing employees giving on the job training amending or rejecting work monitoring work conditions approving leave resolving complaints and checking on work in progress. Work experience advising patients of nonpayment or approval of claim; compile and write reports; contact alternate patient resources; complete contacts independently including review of complex records.

    Time In Grade
    Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
