Whats the role
As North America Regulatory Advisor you will have the opportunity to support understanding and execution of US regulatory and commercial efforts for our growing Low Carbon Fuels (LCF) Trading business. Within the LCF Regulatory Team the role will focus on US and Canadian markets monitoring the political and legislative landscape for opportunities and threats to our business and supporting the LCF teams developing their strategy. As the market grows and the regulatory landscape becomes more complex you will be expected to support and drive the required changes ensuring Shell can meet its energy transition aspirations as well as transportation renewables and GHG reduction obligations.
Accountabilities:
Support the LCF team by providing analysis and insights into current and emerging regulatory requirements impacting the North American markets in the short medium and long-term
Understand interactions between the various transportation GHG reduction regulations such as US RFS Canada CFR California LCFS BC LCFS Oregon CFP ISCC and other existing and emerging regulations driving transportation decarbonization
Advise the LCF business on commercial implications of regulatory and political changes providing concise and actionable summaries quickly after major announcements highlighting risks and opportunities
In close collaboration with other teams at Shell identify and formulate input to advocacy position to support Shells overall LCF advocacy strategy
Lead implementation of accreditation certification chain of custody processes and reporting requirements across the many new supply chains and businesses models that will be required to support our growing renewable Shell businesses supporting new transportation mandates as they come into effect
Develop insights and identify opportunities preparing material to engage commercial leaders and other senior stakeholders
Build a network of internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely information in respect of ongoing political discussions impacting the transportation decarbonization regulatory space
Ensure pathways licenses and license to operate certifications and chain of custody processes are complied with as required.
Collaborate with the Analytics team to develop long and short-term supply and demand models across all relevant markets advising on regulatory impacts
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Bachelors degree required
3 or more years working in energy trading environments
Experience interpreting North American low carbon fuel regulations (US RFS Canada CFR California LCFS BC LCFS) required
Ability to relate regulations directly to business impact in the context of Renewables & GHG reduction transport obligations
Expertise formulating opinions and advising on commercial/operational impacts to existing and/or new commercial opportunities through the emerging legislation
Understanding of the political landscapes of the US and Canada as they relate to energy policy
Proven ability to nurture and leverage relationships managing multiple internal cross functional and business relationships
Ability to combine a vast array of data and knowledge with strategic advice and synthesize it into a clear consistent storyline to ensure effective advocacy as well as drive business implementation
Commercial experience and delivery focus with deep interest in renewables
Creativity and ability to respond confidently under time pressure to challenges in negotiations with highly experienced commercially astute professionals
Highly motivated with self-starter mentality strong team player
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Language skills: English. French welcome but not essential
What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $103000 - $155000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors such as relevant work experience education certifications skill level seniority and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description) insurance coverage options include medical dental vision coverage life Insurance Business Travel Accident Insurance and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time up to 11 paid holidays and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption wellness education and personal learning expenses and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives.
