Role: Law Clerk II
Location: San Diego CA 92101

Education: JD REQUIRED
Clearance: Ability to obtain clients Public Trust Clearance
Required Skills: Must have at least two years of progressively more responsible experience on litigation support projects or task order related projects including proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys. Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems legal research procedures and legal research resources. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw. Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications including word processing databases (such as document review and file management systems) spreadsheets and imaging. Role also requires hands-on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Preferred Skills: Provide legal support services for the client divisions to work on various criminal and civil cases to enhance efforts to combat crime and enforce immigration laws.
Day-to-day Responsibilities: Works with the assigned client attorneys and/or supervisory attorneys to determine applicable administrative statutory and regulatory law and to identify possible defenses violations or causes of action.
Develops an understanding of all applicable federal state or local laws and keeps abreast of any new criminal and civil rules and procedures. Alerts client attorneys to all potential issues while conducting reviews and analyzing and interpreting data within the case file.
Oversees practice with regard to 28 . 2255 (habeas corpus) and immigration habeas matters including but not limited to: receiving and docketing same calendaring due dates contacting appropriate client attorneys/Support Staff regarding locating files necessary to drafting responses; preparing a draft response for review by appropriate AUSA; and attending to timely filing of responses.
Incumbent analyzes statutes legislative intent judicial precedents agency rules and regulations and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases to include those of an especially complex or unprecedented nature. Supports client attorney by briefing attorneys on pertinent facts issues and case law. Drafts correspondence and legal documents for attorneys signature. Drafts proposed orders for signature of judges and magistrates. Expected Deliverables: N/A
