Law and Motion Associate

Join a law and motion and appeals team at a California civil litigation defense law firm. You will provide research and written advocacy that supports litigation strategy across a range of practice areas.

• Draft pretrial motions and oppositions including pleading-related discovery and dispositive motions.
• Prepare trial documents such as motions in limine trial briefs pocket briefs jury instructions and verdict forms.
• Draft post-trial motions including motions for a new trial and motions for attorneys fees.
• Research complex legal issues and provide strategic recommendations to litigation attorneys and clients.
• Assess litigation and appellate strategies with opportunities to handle appeals and participate in appellate arguments.

• Two to ten years of civil litigation defense experience with a strong focus on legal writing.
• A J.D. and active California State Bar membership in good standing.
• Experience drafting motions oppositions or appellate briefs along with a writing sample demonstrating excellent research writing and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of California civil procedure and substantive law including experience handling complex legal issues across litigation matters.
• Experience working as part of a civil litigation defense firm team and the ability to meet an annual billable target of 1920 hours.
• Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw and LexisNexis and video conferencing tools such as Zoom.

Annual base salary: $130000 to $185000. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Hybrid work arrangement in Los Angeles California.
