Job Summary

The person in this position is under the general supervision of the building principal and is responsible for teaching middle school level English/Language Arts courses aligned with Oregon Middle School and Common Core State Standards. This individual must work cooperatively with other members of the staff as a member of the LA Professional Learning Community to provide students with a well-planned and organized instructional program utilizing effective school practices.

Qualifications Required

  1. Current Oregon Teaching License with appropriate English/Language Arts endorsement meeting Highly Qualified Teacher standards;
  2. Demonstrated positive classroom management skills;
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in instruction / learning methods and techniques;
  4. Demonstrated understanding and judgment regarding student safety;
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues support staff administrators students parents and patrons;
  6. Ability to meet the Junction City School District Standards of Competent Teacher Performance and the Oregon Standards for Professional Educators;
  7. Ability to know understand and adhere to school rules and District policies.

Qualifications Desired

  1. Ability to positively engage middle school students in Language Arts instruction including reading & writing;
  2. Successful E/LA teaching experience in grades 6-8;
  3. Knowledge and experience with proficiency-based teaching and learning and standards-based grading;
  4. Ability to evaluate the educational strengths and needs of students;
  5. Ability to convey to parents and teachers the students learning abilities and needs;
  6. Possession of or ability to obtain a current first aid/CPR card;
  7. Willingness to immerse in the culture and traditions of Oaklea MS and willingness to coach and/or advise clubs;
  8. Ability to plan and implement a demonstration lesson with OMS students and/ or submit video of your teaching in another setting.
