The Laboratory Department at Union Health is looking for an experienced Lab Technical Coordinatorto join our team. We are looking for an individual who is committed to providing accurate timely and high-quality laboratory services while supporting their team in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

The Laboratory Technical Coordinator/Senior Technologist plays an important role in supporting daily laboratory operations providing technical oversight performing laboratory testing assisting with quality assurance activities and serving as a technical resource for laboratory staff phlebotomy/lab assistant staff nursing staff and providers. This position also assists with staff training and competency workflow coordination troubleshooting quality control regulatory compliance and maintaining the highest standards of laboratory testing.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Perform review and report laboratory testing according to approved procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
  2. Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff phlebotomy/lab assistant staff nursing staff providers and approved students.
  3. Provide technical staff coverage and assist with daily laboratory workflow coordination as needed.
  4. Assist with staff training orientation coaching continuing education performance reviews and competency documentation.
  5. Support quality control quality assurance proficiency testing regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness.
  6. Assist with new test development evaluation validation procedure review and laboratory standardization.
  7. Perform result review critical value review reagent and instrument testing calibration verification and other required quality activities.
  8. Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and testing systems and coordinate vendor support when necessary.
  9. Maintain accurate documentation related to QC QA maintenance patient testing corrective actions and regulatory requirements.
  10. Evaluate specimens for proper identification collection labeling handling and test requirements and reject unacceptable specimens according to policy.
  11. Prepare specimens for in-house and reference laboratory testing including processing storage routing packaging and shipping.
  12. Use the Laboratory Information System to accurately enter and verify patient information orders specimens results reports and result transmission.
  13. Collect blood and other specimens when required or assigned.
  14. Communicate effectively and professionally with laboratory staff physicians nurses patients and other departments.
  15. Participate in required meetings quality improvement initiatives committees and special projects.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  1. Bachelors or Associates degree in chemical physical biological clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; or meet applicable military laboratory training requirements.
  2. Must meet CLIA requirements for testing personnel based on the complexity of testing performed.
  3. ASCP AMT or NCA certification or eligibility preferred.
  4. Minimum of 3 years of laboratory technologist experience required; 5 years preferred.
  5. Experience or training in high-complexity laboratory testing specialties is preferred particularly in areas requiring technical supervisor oversight.
  6. Strong knowledge of laboratory testing principles specimen requirements quality control quality assurance instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  7. Ability to train coach support and provide technical guidance to laboratory staff.
  8. Ability to recognize abnormal or unexpected results and situations requiring escalation.
  9. Basic computer keyboarding and Laboratory Information System skills.
  10. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and during emergency situations.
  11. Depending on staffing needs must be willing to participate in weekend holiday and overtime coverage to ensure continuity of laboratory operations.
