JOB TITLE:Kindergarten Teacher (2026-2027 School Year One Year Only)LOCATION: Colt Andrews Elementary SchoolSTART DATE: August 26 2026QUALIFICATIONS: Rhode Island Department of Education Early Childhood Education ( Grades PK - 2) Teaching CertificationMasters and dual certification in Special Education Multilingual Learner (MLL) or Reading preferredPrior experience preferredUS Citizenship residency or work visa requiredREPORTS TO:Building AdministratorSALARY: The base salary is per BWEA contract. One Year Only Position for the 2026-2027 school year. JOB GOAL: Responsible for teaching Kindergarten students to master and excel on grade-level expectations through a variety of experiences and learning ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Implement district-approved curriculum with an emphasis on workshop models and project-based learning and/or implement appropriate materials and activities appropriate to each level and provide for classroom lessons open houses portfolios and community information and collaborate with school members parents and administration in a timely and organized student growth and understanding by preparing regular progress each students learning level and select appropriate materials and instructional aids to enhance skills in literacy numeracy science and social sciences providing interdisciplinary connections whenever all lessons in accordance with the BWRSD curriculum individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional the classroom to create a learning environment that is safe and conducive to learning and student professional competence through professional development opportunities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth with parents and school staff on student thorough records for each staff development programs curriculum development meetings and other professional instruction that addresses the core skills concepts and ideas of the disciplines/content areas to help all students meet Rhode Islands learning and use differing viewpoints theories and methods of inquiry when teaching concepts and encourage students to see question and interpret concepts from a variety of instructional opportunities that reflect an understanding of how children learn and an understanding of students (e.g. individual interests prior learning background and experiences) to create connections between the subject matter and student instructional opportunities to encourage all students development of critical thinking problem-solving performance skills and literacy across content school policy and procedures respecting the boundaries of professional responsibilities when working with students colleagues and any other related duties as assigned by the Building Administration and/or other appropriate district to R.I. Gen. Laws 16-11.4-6(b) by September 1 2025 and each subsequent year teachers employed in Rhode Island public schools must demonstrate proficiency or awareness in the knowledge and practices in the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy instruction. All teachers administrators and other certified personnel will have one year from the date of appointment to provide evidence of meeting proficiency or awareness requirements in the Science of Reading and structured Literacy as determined by their role.
