Job Summary

Summary

This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Logistics Service in the VA Health Care System responsible for the inventory and management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment in the assigned area(s).


Duties

  • Plans and reviews all inventory processes functions and related systems.
  • Conducts wall-to-wall and periodic inventories.
  • Maintains perpetual inventory accounts for expendable items.
  • Develops and supports the creation of acquisition strategies and standardization initiatives to acquire and purchase durable medical equipment.
  • Analyzes data that impact procurement decisions.
  • Researches opportunities for and conducts analysis of potential cost savings efficiencies and process improvements using quantitative and historical usage patterns.
  • Utilizes best practices principles and tools concepts and methodologies to determine and evaluate supply system performance.
  • Identifies and rectifies inventory management issues.
  • Performs analytical work to manage regulate coordinate and exercise control over expendable supplies.
  • Analyzes and advises customers on supply/durable medical equipment purchase
    recommendations.
  • Conducts data/information analysis for acquisition planning associated with durable medical equipment.
  • Coordinates with property managers for disposal of surplus or excess supplies.
  • Recommends actions to eliminate problems involved in delivering services to inventory customers.
  • Advises and informs stakeholders concerning the management control and accountability of expendable items in use.
  • Maintains inventory control records in an automated system.
  • Compiles and analyzes performance measures and implements process improvements.
  • Utilizes automated inventory management system to maintain current inventory data.
  • Researches and develops solutions to complex and routine problems.
  • Manages inventory independently sets initial stock and par levels and reorders points and resolves issues.
  • Determines the means and methods to resolve issues and improve operations.

Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory qualification and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Work Schedule: Full-time Monday- Friday; 07:30am-04:00pm; subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 08/03/2026.

    Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

    For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 in order to meet the Time-In-Grade Requirement.
    For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07 in order to meet the Time-In-Grade Requirement.

    The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade as required by the this instance you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
