Job Summary

Summary

This position serves as an Inventory Manager in the Commodity Management Division of the Logistics Service in the Minneapolis VA Health Care System responsible for the inventory and management of all expendable supplies and durable medical equipment in the assigned area(s).


Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:

  • Inventory Management and Control: Responsible for the management and control of an assigned class of expendable material; serves as the point of contact for the coordination of material support and resolution of logistic problems; conducts forecasting and quantitative analysis; conducts spot checks; and complies with special requirements for firearms ammunition and sensitive equipment

  • Returns Recalls and Reutilization: Implements federal and agency programs for the return and reutilization of medical supplies; coordinates disposal of surplus or excess supplies; makes emergent procurement decisions; and participates in root cause analysis process

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience: Preferred candidates will possess experience managing medical and surgical supply inventories within a healthcare environment including demand forecasting inventory optimization product standardization and supply utilization analysis. Experience using automated inventory management systems collaborating with clinical stakeholders managing recalls and expiration-sensitive products and implementing process improvements that improve supply availability while reducing costs is highly desirable. Candidates with a strong background in healthcare supply chain analytics and data-driven inventory management are encouraged to apply.


Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory qualification and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.



Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm

Physical Requirements and Work Environment: You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Work is normally accomplished in an office setting; however due to the nature of the position and duties may be called upon to assist in the receipt storage and distribution of various supplies primarily consisting of lifting light boxes generally less than 40 pounds utilizing appropriate material handing devices and placing items on shelves or carrying them elsewhere on station or within the catchment area. Must maintain applicable training and licensing to operate assigned equipment.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 07/24/2026.

    Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade as required by the this instance you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
