Job Summary

At Midland States Bank base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education skills internal equity and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Position Summary

The Enterprise Risk Management Intern will provide assistance to the Enterprise Risk Management Department with recurring risk management responsibilities and special projects that support the Banks operational risk framework governance processes and enterprise-wide risk reporting.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Assist with developing and updating enterprise process maps and risk and control documentation to strengthen the Banks operational risk framework.
  • Support operational risk assessments and assist with analyzing Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) operational risk events and related risk data.
  • Assist with enterprise risk reporting and governance documentation to support clear and consistent risk management practices.
  • Contribute to special projects related to governance third-party risk business continuity process improvement and change management.
  • Collaborate with Risk team members and business partners across the Bank to gain exposure to banking operations internal controls regulatory expectations and enterprise risk management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).

Position Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • The internship will run for Summer of 2027 beginning mid-May and ending early August.
  • Able to work a 40-hour work week Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • Must reside local to the St. Louis MO area and report to the St. Louis office.
  • Enrolled in a degree program with courses of study including Finance Accounting Business Risk Management Information Systems or a related field at a college or university with at least 2 years completed.
  • Works well in team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Teams.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn and use new software and programs.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Interest in banking enterprise risk management internal controls audit or regulatory compliance is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using AI tools or chat models is preferred.
