Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Under the direction and supervision of administrators or assigned supervisors the Instructional Assistant provides instructional behavioral and classroom support to students in individual small-group and classroom settings. The position assists teachers in implementing instructional activities reinforcing learning objectives supporting student independence maintaining a safe and positive learning environment and performing related clerical and organizational duties.
The Instructional Assistant works collaboratively with teachers specialists administrators students families and school personnel to support student achievement social-emotional development behavior and overall educational success.
Typical Duties: Instructional Support
- Assists teachers and instructional personnel with the preparation organization and presentation of instructional materials classroom activities and lesson plans.
- Provides individualized or small-group instruction and reinforcement of academic skills under teacher direction.
- Tutors guides and supports students in completing assignments projects classroom activities and learning tasks.
- Reinforces concepts taught by certificated staff and assists students in meeting academic developmental behavioral and functional goals.
- Reads to students and supports reading writing language mathematics and other classroom activities.
- Assists students in developing appropriate classroom routines independence and learning strategies.
- Provides additional instructional support before during and after school activities as assigned.
Typical Duties- Student Supervision and Support
- Supervises and monitors students in classrooms playgrounds lunch areas common areas and other learning environments.
- Maintains a safe orderly supportive and inclusive environment for students.
- Observes student behavior progress and participation; documents and reports information according to established procedures.
- Supports implementation of teacher-developed behavior plans classroom expectations and approved behavior management strategies.
- Provides encouragement guidance emotional support and positive reinforcement to students.
- Demonstrates patience warmth understanding and responsiveness when working with children.
- Assists students with social skills communication problem-solving and appropriate interactions with peers and adults.
- Assumes responsibility for supervising students when assigned.
Special Education and Specialized Support:
- Supports students with diverse learning developmental behavioral communication and physical needs.
- Assists students in accessing instruction and participating in classroom activities.
- Implements instructional strategies and supports as directed by teachers and specialists.
- Assists with student accommodations modifications and individualized supports.
- Provides assistance with daily classroom routines and student independence skills as needed.
Classroom and Clerical Support
- Prepares organizes duplicates files and maintains instructional materials.
- Maintains student records attendance information files and documentation as assigned.
- Assists with grading assignments organizing classroom materials and preparing reports.
- Sets up classroom work areas bulletin boards displays equipment and learning materials.
- Maintains inventory of classroom supplies and instructional materials.
- Operates classroom and office equipment including computers audiovisual equipment and assigned software applications.
- Performs routine clerical tasks and basicrecordkeepingduties.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicates effectively with teachers administrators staff students and families.
- Provides and receives information regarding student needs progress and classroom activities.
- Participates in meetingstrainings professional development and in-service activities as assigned.
- May provide interpretation or translation support when required by the position.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Other Duties

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- Experience working with children in educational childcare youth or organized settings.
- Coursework training or experience in education psychology child development special education behavior support or related fields.
