Job Summary

40% - Be present in the Cupboard during its hours of operation and available to help students shop to select nutritious food options. Ensure visitors are logged in and entered into Pantrysoft system. Help to ensure safe hygiene practices within the space.
20% - Coordinate food procurement and food recovery efforts for the Campus Cupboard through collaborative partnerships with Just Food KU Dining and other campus and community partners. Assist with food pickup and delivery in collaboration with Just Food.
10% - Cultivate and maintain positive partnerships with stakeholders including but not limited to:
  • Students
  • Student Organizations
  • University offices and departments
  • Supply partners
10% - Work alongside volunteers. Provide brief training and support to volunteers working in the Cupboard.
10% - Organize and sort clothing received for clothing closet.
5% - Work tabling events to provide information about the Student Engagement Center.
5% - Follow policies related to:
  • Safe food handling requirements including dry frozen and/or refrigerated foods
  • Storage
  • Pest control
  • Food safety training

Position Overview
The Student Engagement Center (SEC) at the University of Kansas serves as a hub for student involvement leadership development impact programs and resources and community programs. Through the Student Engagement Center KU students deepen their connection to each other and KU by exploring communities and opportunities to thrive during their Jayhawk experience. Students will engage through registered student organizations leadership experiences and professional development workshops. The Center will impact students by providing for direct needs in the Campus Cupboard Pregnant and Parenting Pantry clothing closets and the Emergency Aid Network. Jayhawks will build community as they connect with peers and engage in student support programs. The Student Engagement Center enhances existing programs by providing greater resources and deeper connections across Student Affairs.

Student Hourly employees for the Student Engagement Center are responsible for strengthening the KU student experience through assisting students staff faculty and affiliates in impact programs assisting with SEC events organizing physical spaces and supporting staff as necessary.

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Ability to lift 10 pounds and stock shelves as needed.

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
