Job Summary

POSITION TITLE:HVACMechanic I

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Richmond County SchoolsHVACMechanic I under the authority of thedirector ofconstruction maintenance and planningis responsibleforperforming the full range of duties associated with installationmaintenancerepair of ventilation airconditioningand environmental control systems.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Repairs andmaintainsHVACequipment systems. Conducts both minor and major repairs on boilers heat pumps furnaces chillers packaged air conditioning units compressors and exhaust fans.
  2. Performs periodic maintenance on HVAC equipment and systems. Conducts monthly quarterly semi-annual and annual preventive maintenance programs places all equipment and systems on preventive maintenance schedules; executes not only preventive maintenance activities recommended by equipment vendors but also those determined to be necessary by Richmond County Schools Maintenance Departmenttoextend the useful life of equipment and systems.
  3. Procures replacement parts/suppliesrequiredto complete work orders.
  4. Prepares andmaintainsrecords to document work orders completed preventive maintenanceaccomplished repairs performed parts replaced and refrigerants used.
  5. Performs other HVAC functions. Plans andassistswith HVAC installations; checks operating status of computerized energy management systems;maintainstemperatures within the schools and facilitiesin accordance withprescribed conditions.
  6. Subject to beingon-callafter normal working hours and on weekends.
  7. Complete otherduties asassigned by theHVAC supervisor and/or thedirector ofconstruction maintenance and planning.

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. Knowledge of heating ventilationand refrigeration theory.
  2. Knowledge of the practices methods materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of ventilation air conditioning and environment control equipment.
  3. Knowledge of energy management systems (preferred).
  4. Knowledge of electricityand low voltage controls.
  5. Knowledge of the design and operation of reciprocaland scrollcompressors
  6. Knowledge of the design and operationof pneumatic control systems
  7. Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures
  8. Ability to follow specific written and oral instructions
  9. Ability to use recycle and recovery equipment
  10. Skill in theuse of tools and equipmentutilizedin the repair of ventilation air conditioning and environmental control equipmentincluding brazing and silver solder.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma andtwoyearspreviousexperience in the installation maintenance and repair of ventilation air conditioning and environmental control systems is working on boilers school training for HVAC equipment and EPA certification applicant will hold a state issued heating and/or air conditioning license orapplicant must be willing to attend necessary training and take required exam to obtain a license.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:12 months

SALARY SCALE:NC09/Step 0($39074.88)
