Job Description


Peterson Cat has a need for a Human Resources Manager based at our San Leandro CA location. This is an onsite position at our San Leandro location.

SUMMARY

The Human Resources (HR) Manager acts as a business partner by implementing Company HR strategy and by providing HR guidance tools and support to their assigned business units management teams. This position represents the overall HR function with the highest level of integrity at all times sharing Petersons vision values and operating principals. Manages employee-relations activities and programs that promote positive labor and employee relations for all Peterson in the development and implementation of company-wide HR initiatives; supports implementation of policies and programs through project coordination data analysis cross-functional collaboration and continuous process improvement. Work involves a high level of decision making initiative and independent judgment.

Depending on location this position may also assist in negotiating collective bargaining agreements implementing arbitration decisions researching and handling grievances researching arbitration panels and working with the negotiations team as necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Interpret and implement policies procedures laws standards and government regulations to employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Proactively monitor all processes and policies to ensure compliance with functional state and federal regulations rules and laws.

  • Provide guidance and direction to business units regarding employment related matters and act as a department liaison regarding various issues for management.

  • Coordinate workflow for HR personnel delegating assignments handling conflict resolutions and maintaining accurate files and records.

  • Contribute to the HR teams business strategy by identifying prioritizing and building organizational capabilities behaviors and process efficiency improvements.

  • Support management in forecasting and planning through staffing succession planning and employee development activities.

  • Review and benchmark internal and external environment to improve HR policies procedures and initiatives to enhance overall business performance.

  • Identify and drive communication and cross functional learning to facilitate continuous improvement and cohesiveness.

  • Understand management and employee opinions and anticipate needs and concerns.

  • Maintain close contact with other HR team members and other corporate services departments such as Accounting Risk and Information Services to work in synchronization with local and regional needs.

  • Prepare the companys response to employment-related litigation or inquiries.

  • Assist managers with employee-relations activities and programs including but not limited to employee complaints performance management corrective action interpretation of polices and employee recognition programs.

  • Review and approve performance reviews and provide guidance to company managers to ensure consistency between salary increases given and employees performance evaluation.

  • Conduct investigations into claims of harassment or other company-guideline violations.

  • Research state and federal employment laws and coordinate appropriate revisions to companys human resources policies and procedures as needed.

  • As directed create and/or revise human resource communications materials such as handbooks and procedures manuals.

  • Ensure that all employees receive and understand companys human resources policies and procedures and all updates.

  • Assist Talent Acquisition team with recruitment and outreach efforts as needed. Assist managers with interviewing and selecting candidates to fill openings.

  • Conducts stay and exit interviews with employees; communicate findings to management.

  • Assist Compensation team with administering company compensation policies and practices.

  • Travel up to 25% of the time to perform essential job functions at various Peterson locations.

  • Maintain punctual regular and predictable attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to collect interpret and/or analyze complex data and information such as complex laws and/or policies.

  • Ability to work with all levels of management.

  • Strong organizational problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow.

  • Versatility flexibility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects; coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.

  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.

  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.

  • Must be able to travel to branch locations throughout assigned area of responsibility sometimes with little advance notice.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree from a fully accredited college in Business Administration HR Management or other closely related field; and a minimum of four (4) years of directly related experience in a similar HR role preferably in a heavy industrial environment with employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Prior experience directing coordinating reviewing and/or monitoring the work of others required.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS

  • Must maintain a valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record.

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) preferred.

The pay range for this position is: $129000.00 - $150000.00 (Starting wage will depend on experience and education. We also offer a total compensation package in addition to base salary.)
