Job Summary
Hamilton Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to lead our Boys basketball program as the Head Basketball Coach for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will be responsible for fostering a positive and competitive environment that promotes the development of student-athletes both on and off the court. This role requires strong leadership communication skills and a commitment to the values of teamwork sportsmanship and academic excellence.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement practice plans and game strategies that enhance team performance and individual skill development.
- Organize and conduct tryouts practices and games ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
- Mentor and motivate student-athletes promoting discipline teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Collaborate with school administration athletic department and parents to ensure effective communication and support for the basketball program.
- Monitor student-athletes academic progress and promote a balance between athletics and academics.
- Maintain equipment and facilities ensuring they are safe and in good condition.
- Schedule and coordinate transportation for away games and ensure compliance with all league and school policies.
- Evaluate team performance and individual player development throughout the season providing constructive feedback.
- Foster a positive relationship with the community and promote the basketball program through outreach and engagement activities.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience at the middle school or high school level preferably in basketball.
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals strategies and rules of the game.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with student-athletes parents and school staff.
- Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to achieve their best both in sports and academics.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the season).
- A commitment to the principles of equity and inclusion in sports.
- Availability for afternoon and evening practices games and events throughout the season.
- Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check as required per school board policy.
