Job Description:

Sunday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday 6:00 PM-4:00 AM (3rd Shift) 40 hours a week - Histology Department

About the Elliot Hospital Laboratory:

The Elliot Hospital Laboratory is a full service 24/7 operation. We are both CAP and AABB addition to traditional inpatient and outpatient work the laboratory supports a Level II trauma center Level III NICU High Risk Maternity unit three urgent cares two cancer centers a community health center and approximately 60 nursing and assisted living facilities. Our yearly billable volume is approximately 1.6 million tests.

In addition our Blood bank is an American Red Cross Blood depot for the State of New Hampshire supporting other hospital with urgent blood product needs.

About The Job

Performs diversified technical chemical and other associated duties related to processing surgical autopsy and bone marrow specimens from fixation to the final microscopic slide.

What Youll Do

1. Preserves processes and embeds surgical autopsy bone marrow and dermatology tissue sections into paraffin blocks and cuts blocks to produce microscopic slides for diagnosis by pathologists.

2. Operates all histology equipment and machinery including but not limited to the microtome H&E auto-stainers cover slipper Immuno-stainers cassette and label printers embedding stations and tissue processors.

3. Performs frozen sections including the freezing cutting and staining of fresh tissue.

4. Adheres to established quality control policies and procedures to ensure the proper functioning of equipment reagents and procedures.

5. Maintains slide and block control files for both special and immunohistochemical stains

Education

1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent and two years formal training in an accredited histology lab - Or - Associates degree in any science or healthcare field and one year formal training in an accredited histology lab

2. One year histology technician experience preferred.

3. ASCP HT certification preferred or eligible
