The HIM Certified Coder reviews medical records and appropriately assignsDiagnosis and Procedure codes. Classification systems include ICD-9CM CPTHCPCS as well as other specialty systems as required by diagnostic category andcurrent coding standards. All work carried out in accordance with the rulesregulations and coding conventions of the American Hospital Association (CodingClinic) ICD9 (ICD10 when applicable) AMA CPT and CMS coding guidelines.
Reviews Patients records for procedures and diagnosis.
Enters and maintains codes in the computer system.
Planning Productivity and Decision Making.
Preserves and protects patients rights to confidentiality.
Performs other job- related duties as requested.
High school graduation plus active certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) with evidence of additional education in Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology required. Certified Professional Coder credential (CPC) candidates will be considered but must pass the CCS exam within one year of initial hire. Minimum of 2 years experiencein a hospital inpatient or outpatient setting required.
