Heavy Equipment Operators-Public Works

JOB SUMMARY:

This position typically provides performance ofspecialized skilled work in the operation of a variety of complex motorizedheavy equipment and vehicles in the construction and maintenance of countyright of ways. Must be able to deal courteously and effectively with fellowemployees and citizens.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Performs duties in the operation of various types ofheavy construction equipment which may include front-end loader excavatorbackhoe compactor motor grader skid steer bulldozer and tri-axle dumptruck with trailer.

Operates small hand tools forklifts chain sawscommercial weed eaters and earth compactors during installation and repairs ofstorm drainage system or roadways. May use asphalt hotbox delivering spreadingand leveling hot mix asphalt in patching potholes paving driveways andresurfacing roadways.

Perform routine preventive maintenance ofequipment. Installs drainage pipes at new and completed sites to ensure properdrainage. May perform maintenance work including grading roads cleaningpipes and drains cutting brush and spraying chemicals for dust clearing of roadways. Assists with storm cleanup. Maintains anaccurate record/log of work performed. Perform site safety and trafficcontrol. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work:

Heavy Equipment Operator Apprentice (grade 112) $32947 per year:

High School diploma or equivalent;

Must have and maintain a valid drivers license forSouth Carolina with safe driving record.

Heavy Equipment Operator 1 (grade 118) $38208 per year:

High School diploma or equivalent;

One (1) year of related equipment operatingexperience;

Must have and maintain a valid drivers license forSouth Carolina with safe driving record.

Heavy Equipment Operator 2 (grade 119) $39163 per year:

High School diploma or equivalent;

Two (2) years of related equipment operatingexperience; OR one (1) year of related equipment operating experience with avalid Commercial Drivers License Class A for South Carolina with safe drivingrecord

Must have and maintain a valid Commercial DriversLicense Class B for South Carolina with safe driving record.

Must be proficient in the operation of at leastthree (3) of the following pieces of equipment: front end loader backhoeexcavator compactor skid steer bulldozer motor grader.

Heavy Equipment Operator 3 (grade 121) $41146 per year:

High School diploma or equivalent;

Three (3) years of related equipment operatingexperience;

Must have and maintain a valid Commercial DriversLicense Class A for South Carolina with safe driving record.

Must be proficient in the operation of at leastthree (3) of the following pieces of equipment: front end loader backhoeexcavator compactor skid steer bulldozer motor grader.

Heavy Equipment Operator 4 (grade123) $43229 per year:

High School diploma or equivalent;

Four (4) years of related equipment operatingexperience;

Must have and maintain a valid Commercial DriversLicense Class A for South Carolina with safe driving record.

Must be proficient in the operation of at leastthree (3) of the following pieces of equipment: front end loader backhoeexcavator compactor skid steer bulldozer motor grader.
