Monona Plumbing & Fire Protection is seeking a dedicated Head of Accounting to oversee all financial activities. You will handle budgeting forecasting forecasting reporting financial reporting risk management and cost analysis while also managing and developing a high-performing team. Your expertise will be instrumental in guiding the companys financial health and supporting strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Financial Management
- Develop and maintain financial policies procedures and internal controls to ensure accurate and reliable financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze monthly quarterly and annual financial statements including income statements balance sheets and cash flow statements.
- Monitor key financial metrics and variances and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and manage the companys budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Collaborate with senior management to establish financial goals and objectives.
- Work closely with insurance companies and agents to handle quotes renewals claims and audits as necessary.
- Accounting Operations
- Oversee the day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and general ledger.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting principles and standards.
- Review and approve financial transactions invoices and purchase orders.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and regulatory compliance.
- Cost Analysis & Control
- Monitor project costs budgets and profitability providing analysis and recommendations for cost-saving measures.
- Collaborate with project managers to review project financials including job cost reports and labor analysis.
- Perform variance analysis to identify deviations from project budgets and implement corrective actions.
- Assist in the development and evaluation of pricing strategies for bids and proposals.
- Financial Planning & Strategy
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Conduct financial modeling and scenario analysis for business planning and forecasting.
- Assist in evaluating investment opportunities and potential acquisitions.
- Stay updated on industry trends regulations and best practices in financial management.
- People Management
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team and other staff as needed providing guidance support and professional development opportunities.
- Set performance goals and conduct regular performance evaluations for team members.
- Foster a positive work environment promoting collaboration teamwork and effective communication.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels and optimize resource allocation within the department.
- Resolve any employee issues conflicts or performance concerns in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field (Masters degree or CPA certification is a plus).
- Proven experience in the construction industry or mechanical contracting industry as a Head of Accounting Controller Director of Accounting or similar role
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles financial reporting and budgeting.
- Proficiency in financial management software (Sage 300 CRE or Acumatica preferred) and advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in managing and leading a team.
- Ability to work collaboratively and provide financial guidance to cross-functional teams.

Pay Range
$110k$150k base salary placement on the range is dependent on relevant experience
