Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHC) is a Lasallian Vincentian Catholic co-educational college preparatory secondary school located in the heart of San Francisco California. We provide academically rigorous vibrant learning grounded in social justice and student-centered pedagogy. Our community is committed to cultivating each students unique abilities and passions and to facilitating opportunities for students to discern and realize their individual intellectual artistic athletic social and spiritual potential. SHC is a San Francisco Archdiocesan High School that is cosponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of San Francisco and the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul of the Province of the West.

Position Summary
The SHC Head Baseball Coach will serve year-round and is responsible for and essential to the leadership and oversight of Sacred Heart Cathedrals (SHC) baseball program program development and all related activities. The SHC Head Baseball Coach plays a vital role in fostering character development athletic excellence and a culture of discipline sportsmanship and teamwork. This position emphasizes not only skill development but also the holistic growth of student-athletes as individuals and members of the school community.The SHC Head Baseball Coach will additionally work collaboratively with the Athletic Department and school leadership in conjunction with The SHC Plan for the future of SHCs athletic program that advances the schools mission and embraces the pursuit of excellence with respect to the schools tradition community and competitive success.
In alignment with The SHC Plan (strategic vision) the SHC Head Baseball Coach will mentor and develop coaches and student-athletes grounded by strong personal values and integrity and a commitment to the schools charisms and values. Overall as an influential leader within the community the Head Baseball Coach is committed to SHCs Lasallian Vincentian Catholic mission and cultivates a culture of athletic excellence service-oriented leadership and positive sportsmanship. The Head Baseball Coach builds positive relationships between members of the Sacred Heart Cathedral internal and external community.
The Head Baseball Coach serves as a prominent public leader and a primary ambassador for the Sacred Heart Cathedral community embodying the schools values and mission to student-athletes families and the broader public. This is an in-person position and located on campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mission
Invest in the mission of SHC and the charisms of the Daughters of Charity and De La Salle Christian Brothers and Department of Catholic Schools formational programs.
Provide exemplary personal and professional presence throughout the San Francisco and greater Bay Area community.
Promote SHCs mission philosophy and brand among all current and future stakeholders.
Demonstrate integrity spiritual focus ethical behavior fiscal responsibility and managerial excellence in support of the mission of SHC.
Coaching & Baseball Related Responsibilities
Program Leadership: Plan organize and lead all aspects of the SHC Baseball program ensuring alignment with school standards and goals.
Sportsmanship & Conduct: Model exemplary sportsmanship and maintain professional conduct toward opposing teams officials parents fans and the broader community.
Community Engagement: Participate in all required meetings with coaches student-athletes and parents as scheduled by the Athletic Directors.
Athletic Development: Demonstrate and teach advanced skill sets techniques and strategies necessary for individual and team success.
Performance Support: Partner with the Athletic Performance Director and Mental Performance Coach to enhance student-athlete development.
Interpersonal Excellence: Exhibit strong interpersonal and leadership skills in interactions with students staff and families.
Compliance & Eligibility: Clearly communicate and enforce team rules regulations and eligibility requirements for student-athletes.
Regular consultation: Maintain ongoing communication with the Athletic Director(s) to ensure program alignment and effectiveness.
Safe learning environment: Create and sustain an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
Health and safety: Collaborate with school athletic trainers to report injuries teach safety precautions and implement injury-prevention strategies.
Administrative responsibilities: Complete required forms schedules rosters and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Staff collaboration: Work closely with the Athletic Director(s) to recruit hire and mentor qualified assistant coaches.
Other duties as assigned: Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the success of the baseball program and SHC athletics.
Program Development: Pipeline Programming & Community Advancement
Strategic Community Outreach: Drive long-term program growth by acting as the lead representative to community partners and youth sports organizations while operationalizing a comprehensive calendar of clinics and development initiatives to build a robust pipeline program.
Admissions & Enrollment Collaboration: Partner with the Admissions Office to lead tours provide presence at high school fairs and grammar school visits to ensure prospective students and families understand the academic and athletic support systems available.
Youth Program Oversight: Coordinate and market school-hosted summer camps skills clinics and Youth Events to establish the school as the regional hub for athletic development.
College Athletic Pipeline Development: Cultivate and maintain a robust network of collegiate coaching contacts to serve as a strategic liaison for student-athletes facilitating exposure and identifying recruitment opportunities that align with their academic and athletic profiles.
Compliance & Eligibility Guardrails: Monitor all outreach activities to ensure strict adherence to state association Anti-Recruiting and Undue Influence bylaws serving as the departments compliance internal-auditor.
Event Experience Coordination: Enhance the Game Day environment for the community (e.g. alumni events elementary school walk-throughs and community recognition events) to foster deep-rooted school spirit.
Stakeholder Engagement: Lead outreach initiatives and participate in high-visibility events with a diverse range of community stakeholders to build and maintain sustained program support.
Program Engagement: Serve as a face of Sacred Heart Cathedral to the community by promoting engagement spirit and enthusiasm with faculty parents coaches athletes and the wider community.
Alumni Relations: Build and maintain an active database of athletic alumni to facilitate mentorship opportunities for current students and provide social proof of the programs long-term success.
Qualifications and Skills:
Mission-driven individual with a deep passion for development of players team and programming
Playing experience and/or knowledge of the sport is required.
Previous high school or college coaching experience is required.
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with coaches parents and student-athletes
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development for high school age student-athletes
Excellent communication skills as well as outstanding interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work non-traditional workdays (nights weekends holidays)
Ability to travel to meetings games tournaments and contests
Strong role model and demonstrated strong ethical professionalism
A commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Cathedral
A willingness to be an active enthusiastic member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral community
Education and/or Experience Required:
Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience working in athletic leadership coaching and interscholastic athletics
Certifications and/or Licensure Required:
Candidates must clear fingerprinting background checks and complete required trainings and certifications
First aid CPR and AED certification
Valid CA Drivers License
