We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Secondary Guidance Counselor Intern to join our team. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a graduate student or recent graduate to gain practical experience in a secondary school setting. The intern will support students in academic personal and career development working closely with experienced guidance counselors and school staff to enhance the overall student experience.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Masters program in School Counseling or a related field
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build rapport with students parents and staff.
- Understanding of adolescent development and challenges.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Student Support:
- Assist in providing individual and group counseling sessions to address students academic emotional social and career-related needs.
- Help students develop coping strategies goal-setting and problem-solving skills.
- Offer support to students dealing with personal or family issues academic stress and peer relationships.
- Academic Guidance:
- Aid in the development and implementation of academic plans tailored to student needs.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to students parents and teachers.
- Assist in coordinating standardized testing and interpreting test results for students and parents.
- Career Counseling:
- Help students explore post-secondary education and career options.
- Assist in organizing career fairs college visits and informational sessions.
- Program Development:
- Contribute to the creation and delivery of guidance curriculum and programs.
- Participate in workshops and training sessions for students parents and faculty.
- Assist in the development of materials and resources to support the guidance program.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with teachers administrators and parents to support student success.
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss student progress and strategies.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- With their Supervising Guidance Counselor develop a Professional Growth Plan including objective outcomes and complete the plan throughout their internship/practicum year
Terms of Employment: Grant funded for 2026-2027 School Year 30 weeks 20 hours/week
Contingent upon passing post-offer background checks
