Job Description:

This job is afull time benefited FLSA non-exemptposition in the Technology & Operations that reports to the Grounds Manager.

Schedule:Monday- Friday 5:30 AM - 2:30 PM (Occasional Saturdays)

Any combination of training and experience which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge skills and abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum qualificationsAssociate Degree or Diploma in to follow both written and oral instruction quickly and accurately.1-2 years experience in a production landscape maintenance/installation environment. Experience with troubleshooting repairing and installing irrigation systems. Experience with troubleshooting repairing and maintaining landscape maintenance equipment. Ability to use word processing email spreadsheets and internet resources to enhance communication recordkeeping and research.1-2 years experience in a progressively responsible role in a production landscape maintenance/installation environment.

Job Description Summary:

  • Maintains the campus grounds in an attractive and orderly condition by mowing the turf around campus
  • Removing leaves and debris planting seasonal color and performing other related tasks.
  • Performs operator checks and maintenance on grounds equipment.
  • May supervise work-study students and unskilled landscape labor.
  • May require response to campus outside normal working hours which include responding to emergencies.
  • Demonstrates eagerness to learn and assume responsibility; seeks out and accepts increased responsibility; displays a can do approach to work.
  • Shows persistence and seeks alternatives when obstacles arise; seeks alternative solutions; does things before being asked or forced to by events.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Percentage of Time:

  • Effectively operates commercial landscaping equipment to maintain and beautify assigned campus areas ensuring grounds are well-kept safe and visually appealing. (65%)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the safe and effective operation of heavy landscaping equipment including skid steers zero-turn mowers tractors with front-end loaders street blowers wood chippers and aerators to consistently maintain and enhance campus grounds to a high standard of excellence. (10%)
  • Safely and responsibly applies insecticides and herbicides for pest and weed management strictly following product label instructions. (5%)
  • Maintains required records of time spent each day by task category. Performs related support functions as requested. (2%)
  • Cleans and maintains shop tools and all related equipment. (2%)
  • Maintains equipment fluids performs routine equipment maintenance troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment problems and makes necessary repairs.(10%)
  • Designs and installs new landscape plantings hardscape and maintain irrigation system. (5%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs philosophy and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College. (1%)
