Job Summary

Job Title: Grounds Worker

Report to: Grounds Coordinator

Department/Campus: Maintenance

Wage Status: Non- Exempt

Pay Grade: Auxiliary - Pay Grade 4

Work Days: 261

Primary Purpose:

Under general supervision maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district.

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Texas drivers license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate (verbally).
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to operate mowers weed eaters and blowers.
  • Acceptable driving record

Experience:

None

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Mow and detail all District grounds including athletic fields.
  • Care for trees shrubs athletic fields and flower beds following proper cultural practices.
  • Plant shrubs sod and trees.
  • Collect and dispose of tree branches leaves top soil and other debris from District facilities.
  • Operate tools and equipment properly and in a safe manner per manufactures instructions.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including climbing lifting ets.
  • Report unsafe conditions to the Grounds Supervisor for proper corrective action.
  • Keep vehicles equipment and tools in a safe condition by inspecting regularly.
  • Transport workers and equipment to facilities through out the District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor and/or the Assistant Director of Facilities.
  • Attend training related to turf grass management. May include out of town and/or overnight travel.
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to the assigned schedule.
  • Perform other related as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for the position.

This job requires the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent walking standing reaching stooping kneeling bending crouching and/or crawling; work at elevated heights; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; significant fine finger dexterity. The employee is occasionally required to sit climb or balance and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision ability to adjust focus depth perception and peripheral vision. Demonstrate strength and dexterity to operate tools mowers and landscaping equipment. Occasionally required to work from ladders; and exposed to noise from power equipment.

Generally the job requires 5% sitting 50% walking and 45% standing. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and hazardous conditions and requires frequent district wide travel.
