Purpose of Role

The Education Department at Daemen University is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor for a course in our graduate programs in Inclusive Education. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching SED 501 with oversight by the Chair of the Education Department for curriculum alignment and certification requirements. This is an asynchronous online course however the instructor should be available to meet on Zoom with students by appointment as needed.

This is an introductory course about inclusive () education that examines historical and socio-political perspectives of disability both in the United States and addition to learning about characteristics of different disabilities students will examine foundational laws and principles related to inclusive education and reflect on their own identity experiences and values that may impact them as a teacher. This course includes a 3-hour workshop on Autism Spectrum Disorder as required for New York State certification.

SED 501: Introduction to Disability and Inclusive Education (3 credits)


Qualifications

Required Qualifications: NYS teacher certification (any area) Expertise in special education law and practice in the United States and NYS Familiarity with the NYS P-12 learning standards At least three years teaching experience in Grades PK-12 or similar relevant experience Terminal degree in Education or a related field Experience teaching online Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience in higher education/teacher preparation Thorough understanding of Quality Matters rubrics for online instruction NYS teacher certification in Students with Disabilities (any grades)
