Job Summary
POSITION: Grade 3 Teacher
LOCATION: Pell Elementary
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SCHOOL YEAR: 2026/2027
JOB DESCRIPTION: To create flexible elementary grade programs and an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with all students; to motivate develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education in accordance with each students language proficiency ability: and to establish good relationships with parents staff members and their administrators.
EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
- Must hold a valid RI Certification: Elementary Education Teacher Grades 1-6;
- Evidence of developing teaching strategies that will address the unique needs of each student;
- Ability to know and utilize technology in the teaching and learning process;
- Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work education experience teaching educational experience and the interview process;
- Successful completion of the Science of Reading Training;
- Any such alternatives to the above qualifications as the committee may deem acceptable and appropriate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides learning experiences in reading language arts pre-reading arithmetic science art health physical education and music to students utilizing courses of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities;
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction;
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;
- Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports;
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students progress and interpret the school program;
- Identifies students needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health attitude and learning problems;
- Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays bulletin boards and interest centers;
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities;
- Selects and requisitions books and instructional aides maintains required inventory records;
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day;
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program;
- Demonstrates an understanding of standards-based education and how it is implemented in the classroom;
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required;
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities;
- Performs such other duties as assigned by the principal and/or designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month position; appropriate salary/benefits in accordance with the Teachers Contract. Evaluation in accordance with the process as established by the Rhode Island Department of Education for certified educators.
