Job Description

We are seeking a senior Go engineer to support complex third-party open-source package upgrades within a large monorepo environment. You will own the engineering process from package assessment and version changes through dependency remediation build and test stabilization validation and change submission.

This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused primarily on upgrading existing packages and ensuring the existing test suites and applicable presubmits continue to pass. Creation of new unit or integration test suites is not required.

Key Responsibilities

Golang Development & Package Upgrades

  • Assess assigned packages dependency trees API changes build impact and upgrade complexity

  • Upgrade Go modules and package versions while managing version changes and local patches

  • Reapply update or safely retire local patches as required

  • Resolve breaking API changes introduced by upgraded libraries

  • Update downstream callers directly affected by package upgrades

  • Analyze complex dependency relationships and package compatibility issues

Build & Test Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose and remediate Go and Bazel build failures

  • Troubleshoot existing test failures related to package upgrades

  • Investigate compiler linker build test and runtime failures

  • Troubleshoot applicable CI and presubmit failures

  • Validate that upgraded packages successfully build and existing tests pass

  • Isolate issues introduced by dependency or version changes

Engineering Tools & Automation

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Copybara configurations and source synchronization issues

  • Use approved internal tools and reusable automation to accelerate dependency analysis and failure triage

  • Develop repeatable approaches for investigation validation and evidence collection

  • Support efficient engineering workflows for large-scale package migration activities

Change Management & Documentation

  • Submit review-ready change lists with clear technical rationale and validation evidence

  • Document package versions dependency remediation validation results and patch status

  • Maintain traceable migration records throughout the upgrade process

  • Document and escalate material package deviations and external blockers

  • Identify cross-product dependency impacts and communicate them to appropriate stakeholders

Collaboration & Delivery

  • Partner with reviewers engineering teams and language subject-matter experts

  • Communicate technical issues and blockers clearly and proactively

  • Provide actionable evidence when escalating complex issues

  • Maintain predictable progress against assigned upgrade priorities

  • Ensure clean handoffs and capture reusable technical learnings

Qualifications

  • 7 years of software engineering experience

  • Strong hands-on Golang / Go development and debugging experience

  • Strong understanding of Go modules and semantic versioning

  • Experience with transitive dependency resolution and package compatibility

  • Strong knowledge of idiomatic Go and API refactoring

  • Hands-on experience with Go build and Go test

  • Experience with Bazel and large-scale or monorepo-based build environments

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot compiler linker build test and runtime failures

  • Experience with Git-based development code reviews and change management

  • Experience resolving merge conflicts and managing local patches

  • Strong Linux and scripting skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong documentation and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently in a complex engineering environment

  • Candidates should be able to start within 12 weeks

  • Relocation candidates are welcome but must provide confirmation of their ability to work onsite

  • Day 1 onsite in Bellevue WA

  • Hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite per week
