Job Summary

Position Summary

The General Mechanical Superintendent provides leadership coordination and oversight for mechanical construction service retrofit and maintenance projects. This role is responsible for managing field operations supervising mechanical personnel and subcontractors ensuring safety compliance maintaining project schedules and delivering high-quality work in accordance with project specifications and company standards. The General Mechanical Superintendent serves as the primary field leader coordinating labor materials equipment and project activities to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise mechanical crews performing HVAC piping plumbing sheet metal equipment installation startup service and retrofit work.
  • Plan coordinate and direct daily field operations to ensure projects are completed safely on schedule within budget and to quality standards.
  • Review project drawings specifications contracts schedules and work scopes to ensure accurate field execution.
  • Coordinate manpower requirements work assignments equipment utilization and subcontractor activities.
  • Oversee mechanical installations including piping systems valves flanged connections gaskets pumps chillers HVAC equipment and support systems.
  • Ensure proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures energy isolation practices and all site-specific safety requirements are followed.
  • Conduct regular jobsite inspections to verify safety compliance workmanship quality and adherence to company standards.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address schedule impacts labor challenges material shortages and field conflicts.
  • Collaborate with project managers engineers customers vendors and other trades to resolve project issues and maintain workflow.
  • Review and approve field documentation time reporting daily reports safety records quality inspections and project updates.
  • Train mentor and develop foremen lead mechanics and field personnel to improve performance and expand capabilities.
  • Participate in project planning meetings jobsite coordination meetings and customer progress reviews.
  • Ensure tools equipment materials and company assets are properly maintained and utilized efficiently.
  • Support commissioning equipment startup troubleshooting and project closeout activities.
  • Promote a culture of safety accountability teamwork and continuous improvement throughout all field operations.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in mechanical construction HVAC piping industrial maintenance or mechanical service operations.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience directing field personnel.
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems mechanical piping systems chillers boilers pumps sheet metal installation valves gaskets flanges and mechanical startup procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings mechanical plans specifications equipment submittals and project schedules.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations jobsite safety practices and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Strong leadership communication conflict resolution and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects priorities and crews simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with project documentation reporting and construction technology tools.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Mechanical trade license journeyman certification or equivalent industry experience.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience leading large commercial industrial healthcare education or mission-critical projects.
  • Experience managing multiple crews across multiple job sites.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling software and construction management systems.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites and inspect work in progress.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops mechanical rooms and elevated work areas.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend kneel crouch and access confined mechanical spaces when required for inspections.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to review drawings specifications and inspect completed work.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and construction environments.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to support project schedules and critical operations.
