Description

The General Maintenance I position supports the safe efficient and attractive operation of Stephens College by performing preventive maintenance repairs and general maintenance throughout campus facilities. This position works in academic buildings residence halls administrative offices athletic facilities and other campus spaces to ensure buildings and equipment are well maintained and ready to support students faculty staff and visitors.

The ideal candidate is a dependable service-oriented professional who enjoys solving problems working with their hands and contributing to a positive campus environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and general repairs to campus buildings equipment and building systems.
  • Complete maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner while providing excellent customer service.
  • Perform basic repairs involving carpentry plumbing electrical painting drywall flooring doors ceilings windows locks changing filters and building hardware.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairing HVAC equipment and building systems as needed.
  • Install repair and replace fixtures shelving whiteboards signage furniture and other building components.
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support residence hall maintenance including room turnovers repairs and preparation for student move-in and move-out.
  • Assist with campus events by setting up and taking down tables chairs staging tents and other event equipment.
  • Assist with office relocations furniture moves and departmental requests.
  • Perform seasonal duties such as snow and ice removal storm cleanup and exterior maintenance.
  • Maintain tools equipment and assigned work areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Accurately document completed work using the Facilities ticketing system.
  • Follow all College policies and procedures including OSHA safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Work collaboratively with other Facilities team members and departments to meet campus needs.
  • Participate in rotating on-call schedule for emergency response and after-hours call-in situations when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three years of general building maintenance construction or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry plumbing electrical painting and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools power tools ladders lifts and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred

  • Experience in commercial institutional or higher education facilities maintenance.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and preventive maintenance practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift carry push and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Stand walk bend kneel climb crawl and work from ladders or lifts for extended periods.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Safely use maintenance equipment power tools and motorized vehicles.
  • Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations outside normal work hours when necessary.
