Job Summary
Michigan School for the Deaf (MSD) is a program that serves Deaf and Hard of Hearing students and their families throughout the State of Michigan. Programming and services are provided to both day students and students in our student housing. This position will report to the Principal at Michigan School for the Deaf.
The GECS Coordinator is responsible for managing GECS staffing operations including choosing applicants for hiring completing hiring and termination paperwork training observing evaluating placement discipline termination when necessary as well as managing payroll entries PTO sick days raise or change in status paperwork. This role supports daily school operations by ensuring adequate coverage through effective scheduling of classroom support and substitute teachers. The Coordinator maintains high-quality performance standards and ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
Staffing Management
Recruit interview and select qualified candidates for various positions.
Oversee onboarding processes and ensure timely completion of new hire requirements.
Train employees on job responsibilities expectations and organizational procedures.
Develop staff procedures training materials accountability systems and host regular update and training meetings.
Conduct regular observations to assess employee performance and adherence to standards.
Complete performance evaluations provide coaching and develop improvement plans as needed.
Provide coaching and professional development in classroom management and behavior support
Fact find investigate administer disciplinary actions and terminate GECS employees when necessary following proper protocol.

Substitute Scheduling and Placements
Review of daily staffing needs for teacher absences
Coordinate the placement of substitute staff (Aides Interveners 1:1s and teachers) to ensure uninterrupted classroom coverage.
Maintain accurate records of substitute availability assignments and attendance.
Communicate schedule changes or staffing updates to school Human Resources and employees.
Obtain a daily substitute permit.
Provide sub coverage for classrooms when a replacement is not able to be secured.
Administrative Support
Maintain and update Human Resources with personnel reports and documentation in accordance with policy.
Provide timely communication to staff and supervisors.
Ensure compliance with district state and organizational hiring and employment regulations.
Prepare reports or documentation related to staffing performance and scheduling.
Manage payroll entries PTO sick days raise or change in status paperwork.
Other Duties as Assigned
Help to support lunch supervision and provide coverage for aide breaks.
Perform additional tasks or responsibilities as directed by leadership to support department operations organizational goals or emergent staffing needs.
Participate in meetings trainings or special projects as requested.
Adapt responsibilities based on changing priorities or circumstances.
State of Michigan Employees/MSD Contracted Employees: Position duties should not conflict with work schedule if so annual leave must be requested. If absent you will not be paid for that day.
Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications possess one or more of the following:
Bachelors degree
Experience in staffing payroll coordination or school-based operations strongly preferred.
Knowledge of employment practices and relevant regulations.
Strong interpersonal organizational and conflict-resolution skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
GECS Coordinator will work from August 1-July 1 46 weeks of the year. Time off in one-week blocks per the MSD calendar noted as other will be during Christmas Break Spring Break and two weeks in the Summer without payor available paid time off may be used.
Monday- Thursday 6:15am-3:30pm Friday 6:15am-1:30pm
Payments are made on a bi-weekly basis from GECS payroll
Salary is $46000

This is a one-year contracted position and pay will be determined based upon experience. The position will be renewed annually with the mutual agreement of both parties.
