Position: Full-Time Lecturer in Recreation & Leisure Studies
Effective Date: August 17 2027 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $5507 to $6042/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $66084 to $72500/per academic year. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Recreation Therapy Recreation Parks Tourism or related discipline.
- MA/MS in Recreation Therapy Recreation Management or related discipline Candidates working toward completion of a masters degree will be considered as long as official notification of completion of the masters degree can be provided by August 1 2027 (for Fall semester start)
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in Teaching
- Specialization in general Recreation Management or Recreation Therapy
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population including low socioeconomic and first-generation students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in teaching or training excellence at the college or professional level
- At least two years of related professional work experience (Parks and Recreation Summer Camps Non-Profit Recreation like YMCAs or Boys and Girls Clubs)
- Certified Recreation Therapist (RTC: CA CTRS: National)
- Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
- Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom
Duties:
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Recreation Therapy and Recreation Management. Mode of instruction is primarily in-person but may include online or hybrid courses
- Develop relationships with internal and external partners to further expand student opportunities in Recreation and Leisure Studies
- Participate in service to the Department College University Profession and Community

About the College:
The College of Health & Human Services has 11 departments including three clinical programs (Nursing Physical Therapy & Speech Language Pathology). We have 21 bachelors degree programs 22 masters degrees and three doctoral programs. We have over 8000 students with the largest number of graduate students in the university (above 2200). We have over 2200 affiliation agreements with community partners including hospitals clinical and internship sites.
About the Department:
The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies offers undergraduate degrees in two areas:
Recreation Management
Oversee recreational programs at parks sports facilities community centers and other institutions. Recreation managers plan organize and direct recreation and leisure programs.
Recreational Therapy
Help improve a patients physical social and emotional well-being. Recreational therapists plan coordinate and direct recreation-based treatment programs for people with disabilities injuries or other health concerns.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
A background check (including a criminal records check and telephone reference check with most recent employer) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
