Job Summary
You will serve as a journey level FUL- Plumber in Independence National Historic Park.
As a Plumber you will perform the following duties:
- Performs preventive maintenance to all plumbing and mechanical equipment and parts.
- Installs modifies and repairs plumbing fixtures bathtubs showers toilets sinks water fountains and irrigation.
- Cleans sewage drain lines.
- Repairs and/or replaces potable water lines water mains and fire hydrants.
- Installs and repairs submersible pumps and centrifugal transfer pumps.
- Performs maintenance on wells well seals pumps storage tanks and water distribution mains.
- Installs and repairs sewer drain systems (e.g. septic tanks drain fields sewage lift pumps and related piping).
- Serves as a member of the facilitys snow response team and participates in snow removal and related activities.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

- This is a bargaining unit position represented by a union.
- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.

As a condition of employment for accepting this position you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest meet the organization goals and mission of the agency and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the determining if your employment advances the public interest the agency will consider:
- your performance and conduct;
- the needs and interests of the agency;

Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification in writing that your continued employment advances the public interest.
To qualify for this position you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
- Ability to do the work of a Plumber without more than normal supervision. (SCREEN OUT)
- Ability To Interpret Instructions Specification etc. (includes blueprints reading)
- Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
- Knowledge of Equipment Assembly Installation Repair etc.
- Technical Practices (theoretical precise artistic)
- Trouble shooting
- Measurement and Layout
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.

This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is the following counties: Philadelphia Montgomery Bucks Delaware Berks Lancaster Lehigh Northampton and Chester in Pennsylvania; Camden Burlington Gloucester Salem Cumberland and Mercer in New Jersey; New Castle in Delaware; and Cecil in Maryland. Physical Demands: Incumbent makes repairs and installations from ladders scaffolding and platforms in hard-to-reach places. Often works in excavated holes in water and mud. Subjected to odors and irritants. Requires considerable standing stooping bending kneeling climbing and working in uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts carries and sets up equipment that may exceed 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is done inside and outside in dirty greasy areas. May work in all types of weather conditions including long periods of exposure to hot sun and bad weather such as rain snow and/or high winds. Incumbent is exposed to dirt dust spray and fumes; possible bites of poisonous and nonpoisonous insects; and broken bones cuts bruises etc.
