Shaw University is looking for a Director of Experiential Learning for the Experiential Learning and Career Development Center (grant-funded). Reporting to VP of Academic & Student Affairs the Director of Experiential Learning and Career Development provides leadership and direction for a comprehensive career planning facility with a mission to support the colleges students in making informed decisions regarding undergraduate and postgraduate plans by providing resources and opportunities to encourage career exploration and self-assessment. The Director continually expands the client/user base and scope of services to ensure the provision of the widest array of services possible to the broadest mix of academic and corporate clients.
Essential Job Functions:
- Cultivates relationships and negotiates partnerships with local businesses government agencies alumni church community operating units in colleges and universities to effectively market volunteer student employment and interns services.
- Researches and acquires effective evaluation tools to assess the skills and knowledge required by internships student employment and graduate education.
- Oversee the recruitment interview and assigned placement of undergraduate interns to appropriate internship programs.
- Effectively collaborates with other university departments staff and faculty. Ensures the maintenance of detailed files and records for all internship student employment and volunteer assignments.
- Develops controls and administers the annual Experiential Learning and Career Development Center operational budget and ensures that it is prudently managed. Develop and provide budgetary analysis and reports.
- Conducts staff and student training.
- Prepares pre-and post-event analyses and assess opportunities and make recommendations for improving service to internal and external constituencies and implement those improvements as appropriate.
- Prepares year-end reports providing analysis and recommendations for future actions and improvements.
- Conduct Leadership training and development for staff and students.

Supervisory Responsibilities Program Assistant Experiential Learning Coordinator
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors degree from an accredited higher education institution in a business-related field required; Masters preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience (working with students in a higher education setting job placement job recruitment or related experience) OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Substantial and progressively responsible experience in and knowledge of planning production and management of large small high profile and less-formal events for diverse and distinguished guests with the ability to formulate creative ideas and to analyze evaluate and negotiate details reflective of a successful event required.
- Demonstrated project management time management and organization skills with the ability to manage details of multiple and complex projects within firm schedules set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of activities or job duties and effectively carry out event goals in a manner that enhances the image of the university
- Experience and ability to apply management principles practices and techniques to ensure the effective administration of the unit and to ensure that institutional goals are accomplished.
- Fiscal and budget management knowledge and experience including:
- Ability to establish implement monitor and analyze financial data and reporting systems.
- Ability to prepare manage and monitor event budgets anticipating costs of production technical and promotional needs.
- Ability to learn and understand University policies and procedures campus financial and acquisitions systems and to adhere to internal control principles and systems.
- Excellent communication skills sufficient to express ideas and agreements concisely and persuasively both orally and in writing to a variety of constituencies.
- Maintains detailed and accurate files and records.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day and climb stairs as required. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally)
bending and carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly
required to talk and hear and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
