MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN I - OPERATIONS

Pay Grade: GRADE 120: $45756.87 - $66347.47 Annual Salary ($22.00 - $31.90 Hourly Rate)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Merit Full-Time Eligible for benefits.

GENERAL PURPOSE

This position assists in performing semi-skilled and unskilled labor in construction maintenance and service activities related to street sewer/storm traffic and utility maintenance. Receives direct supervision from the Maintenance Supervisor or Crew Leader.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks front-end loaders backhoes vactors flush trucks compressors jackhammers paint sprayers sand blasters concrete saws sewer rodders mowers edgers blowers or any other equipment needed in sewer and stormwater maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Install street barricades and cones before the performance of sewer and storm water
• Direct and control traffic around work sites.
• Be available for recall during any hour for storm sewer emergencies snow/ice control work or other emergencies.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
• Inspect and clear obstructions from storm drains sewer lines gutters and culverts; assist in the repair of sewer mains manholes and tap sewer mains.
• Respond to public inquiries courteously and provide information within the area of assignment.
• Resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
• Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
• Respond to and resolve complex and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
• Willing to accept duty as the Divisions stand-by person for one week and respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day during this period.
• Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
• Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employees are required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employees are required to communicate in person with the public during office hours and after when on call; and employees are required to use on-site equipment.
• Perform other related duties as required/assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• At least one year of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work.
• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may qualify.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid Class A Utah CDL drivers license with tanker endorsement within 150 days of hire.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a wastewater 1 certification within one year (if hired in the Sewer Division).
• Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100 IS200 IS700 and IS800 within one year of hire.

Failure to obtain/maintain the license and certificate as outlined above will result in termination from the position.
