Job Summary

Ferguson Parks and Recreation is looking for a part-time Front Desk/Building Attendant to assist with the front-desk and building operations of the Ferguson Community Center. Work is done in primarily an indoor setting. Part-time is expected to work at least 20 hours per week and not exceeding 30 hours per week.

Work involves overseeing the opening closing and daily operations including greeting the public and being available to answer questions and assist facility users. Position is responsible for clerical tasks in support of operations handling on-site emergencies program registrations financial transactions and maintain communication with the full-time staff. Work is performed with considerable independence under general supervision from a Recreation Specialist.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Provide patrons quality customer service that meets or exceeds the department expectations
  • Provide efficient and friendly front desk operations including answering/routing telephone calls and providing accurate information about services programs and general information related to the parks and recreation department.
  • Process registrations and accept payments for programs room and pavilion rentals and memberships through our computer software
  • Enforce all policies and safety procedures with members and guests of the community center.
  • Provide clerical support including filing updating membership information sorting and mailing newsletters copying and other clerical tasks as requested.
  • Assist with scheduled youth and adult recreational programs birthday party packages and special events as assigned.
  • Ensure facility is clean set-up for rentals and programs and well-maintained.
  • Monitor facility usage and ensure proper operation of including but not limited to the child watch area fitness center gym and game room.
  • Maintain positive rapport with members staff and volunteers.
  • Complete reports for injury accidents and other incidents.
  • Responsible for working funds cash drawers daily reports and daily deposits.
  • Responsible for effective communication to full-time staff through a Daily Communication Log e-mail and phone calls in emergencies.
  • Responsible for the security of the building including unlocking locking and setting alarms.
  • Follow safe work practices.
  • Market programs and promote membership benefits.
  • Give facility tours.
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions with members the public and full-time staff.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Missouri Drivers License.
  • Must be 18 or older at time of hire.
  • Requires a positive can-do attitude with ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Must possess strong human relation skills and the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills to handle problem solving and interpersonal skills to deal with people of all socio-economic levels.
  • Subject to working a varied schedule including days evenings and weekends.
  • CPR certification required (provided by the City upon hire).

Work is performed in an office setting as well as on-site involving outdoor work in the inspection of various land use developments construction sites and residential streets and parkways. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; sit; use hands and fingers to handle feel or operate objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
