Job Summary

MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Refrigeration Foreman to serve as the technical lead and crew chief on assigned commercial refrigeration projects. This position is responsible for overseeing field operations directing apprentices and journeymen controlling job costs maintaining project schedules and ensuring work is completed safely and according to project requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong commercial refrigeration and construction experience proven leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage crews subcontractors labor hours and project performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead technical resource on assigned commercial refrigeration projects.
  • Lead and oversee refrigeration installation activities from project startup through completion.
  • Direct and oversee the work of apprentices journeymen and other field personnel assigned to projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors and subcontractors when required.
  • Monitor job progress project status labor hours and overall performance.
  • Control job costs and ensure labor hours remain within acceptable project limits.
  • Identify changes in project scope and request change orders when appropriate.
  • Assign daily work activities and provide clear instructions and technical guidance to field personnel.
  • Ensure assigned work is completed accurately efficiently and according to schedule.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with customers general contractors subcontractors and internal team members.
  • Ensure employees follow required PPE vehicle safety and safe work practices.
  • Maintain compliance with company installation policies and procedures including project tracking safety time and attendance and documentation requirements.
  • Identify project challenges and work proactively to resolve field issues.
  • Provide regular updates regarding project progress performance and potential concerns.
  • Maintain a professional and organized jobsite.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma GED trade program or technical school completion required.
  • College degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial building construction commercial refrigeration or a related skilled trade.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial refrigeration installation and construction principles and practices.
  • Experience leading crews and assigning work in a field environment.
  • Ability to effectively organize tasks prioritize responsibilities and manage multiple project requirements.
  • Strong judgment when making work assignments and field decisions.
  • Ability to provide clear instructions technical guidance and direction to field personnel.
  • Ability to manage project labor hours and recognize when change orders may be necessary.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety practices and proper PPE requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong track record of punctuality reliability and dependability.
  • Ability to manage time delegate assignments and follow through to ensure quality results.
  • Ability to understand and follow company policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Basic computer proficiency including email Microsoft Word and project planning/tracking software.
Work Environment

This position primarily operates in convenience stores grocery stores food service facilities and active construction environments. Employees may be required to work at heights using ladders and/or scissor lifts.

Mechanical rooms may have elevated noise levels. Employees regularly work near commercial refrigeration and HVAC equipment and may be exposed to extreme cold from refrigerants and high temperatures associated with brazing operations.

Work may also be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat humidity inclement weather and dusty environments. Proper PPE and safe work practices are required at all times.

Physical Requirements

This is an active hands-on position requiring the stamina necessary to perform physical work in commercial and construction environments.

Employees must be able to:

  • Walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Bend kneel stoop crouch crawl and climb.
  • Safely work from ladders and elevated work platforms.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Drive as required for assigned projects.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform work requiring close distance color and peripheral vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
