Under the direction of the RN or LPN assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patients highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.Position Details:
Position: Patient Care Tech
Department: Float Pool - Mercy STL - Ballas Campus
Hours / Shift: Full time or Part time Nights only
Must be able to work 2 - 12 hour shifts per week or more - year around
Job Duties

Responsibilities for Patient Care Associate (PCA):
- Obtain vital signs and document in the electronic medical record system
- Assist with patient care needs including:
- Meals
- Bathing
- Toileting
- Ambulation
- Mobility assistance
- Patient transport
- Provide clerical support as needed
Responsibilities for Patient Care Technician (PCT):
- Perform all PCA job duties
- Phlebotomy / blood cultures
- Enteral feeding
- Wound care
- IV / Foley removal
- Tracheostomy care & suctioning
Training
- Our Patient Care Associate Training Program is an accredited Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program
- Gain hands-on experience in a supportive healthcare environment
No Experience No Problem!
- Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program that meets Department of Health and Senior Services requirements
- Training is completed during new hire orientation and must be finished within 90 days
Certifications Requirements:
- BLS required within 1 month of hire
- PCA competencies completed within 3 months of hire
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- CNA/CPTC or
- Currently enrolled in a healthcare program
- OR current Mercy co-worker
Experience:
- None required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to push pull and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Prolonged standing and walking during shifts
- Ability to grip reach bend kneel twist and squat
Preferred Certifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
