Job Summary
FIRST GRADE TEACHER
Garrison Forest School seeks a creative and dynamic First Grade Teacher for its Lower School for the 2026-27 school year. The ideal candidate values the importance of all-girls education and supports both the development of strong academic skills and students confidence authentic voice and capacity for leadership. The salary range for this position is $45000-$75000 based on years of experience and education level; the exact compensation will be discussed during the hiring process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as a member of the homeroom teaching team contributing to the design and implementation of engaging developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching girls and an understanding of best practices in girls education.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of reading acquisition and deliver effective evidence-based literacy instruction within a comprehensive literacy program.
- Demonstrate expertise in developing students conceptual understanding of mathematics with a focus on number sense flexible thinking and problem-solving.
- Demonstrate best practices by using a variety of instructional strategies including flexible grouping differentiated instruction and experiential/discovery learning.
- Develop students critical thinking problem-solving collaboration and communication skills and cultivate the flexibility and self-awareness needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
- Use technology thoughtfully to enhance learning and foster digital citizenship and ethical use while prioritizing meaningful non-digital experiences.
- Use a range of assessment tools to evaluate student learning and growth and make strategic instructional decisions with support from the Academic Success team and administration.
- Foster a warm and supportive classroom culture creating an environment where each student thrives socially emotionally and developmentally.
- Build strong partnerships with colleagues and families through clear consistent and thoughtful communication in support of student growth.
- Embrace the unique GFS experience by engaging with our residential community including domestic and international students and utilizing our 110-acre campus to design outdoor learning experiences that foster inquiry exploration and student well-being.
- Contribute to the life of the School by fulfilling assigned Lower School duties as well as one weekend activity for the Residential Life program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in elementary education or related field required. A Masters degree is preferred.
- Prior experience teaching elementary-aged students.
