Job Summary

- You will serve as a FIREFIGHTER (BLS/HAZMAT TECHNICIAN) in the FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES of COMMANDER NAVY INSTALLATIONS COMMAND (N30).
- You will serve as a Firefighter assigned to a crew engaged in the full range of firefighting and rescue operations.
- You will provide basic emergency medical care and transportation.
- You will assist in reducing and/or eliminating potential fire hazards to protect persons property or the environment following Navy established procedures and protocols.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
- You will be required to take and pass an occupational physical prior to employment and then an annual occupational health examination thereafter.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets gloves coveralls glasses goggles respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to sign a mobility agreement to accept relocation to other geographic locations if required by the employer.
- This is a PRIMARY POSITION FOR SPECIAL RETIREMENT COVERAGE PURPOSES.
- You will be required to have the ability to discern colors contrast and accordance with NFPA 1582 ad Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards.
- You will be required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military volunteer or governmental fire department/brigade. 2) Performing rescue operations as a team member and 3) Operating firefighting equipment such as fire alarm systems fire extinguishing equipment and other similar equipment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
In lieu of specialized experience you may qualify at the GS-05 level with the following education substitute:
Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university in Fire Training Fire Science or another related field of study leading to a bachelors degree;
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.

Firefighters must be physically fit at all times in order to perform the duties of their position to the best of their abilities. As such all operationally based 0081 series employees shall participate in a Wellness and Fitness Program established by their Fire Department in order to maintain a level of health and fitness necessary for performing their job functions.
This position requires rotating shift work. May be required to participate on Hazardous Materials Teams (HAZMAT). May be subject to recall.

Requisite Firefighter Certifications for the position are published in DoDM 6055.6. Certifications are determined based on application of the published DoDM commensurate with the position mission-related duties. position is subject to an initial drug screening and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by HR within 30 calendar days after the EOD (i.e. start date). The selectees inability to successfully pass; or refusal to conduct the test may result in: 1) the tentative or final job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process; or 2) subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment. You may be required to sign a Drug Test Statement of Understanding if you are selected for this position.
