Business Tax Audit: The Business Tax Audit team is seeking a Financial Compliance Auditor Program Supervisor to supervise an audit group of lower-level Financial Compliance Auditors who are assigned the task of auditing examining and analyzing the business records and accounting systems of selected businesses to verify compliance with one or more of the business taxes or fees administered by the Comptrollers Office.
Individual Tax Audit: The Individual Tax Audit team is seeking a Financial Compliance Auditor Program Supervisor to provide supervision and support to auditors assigned to the Financial Compliance Audit group. This group is responsible for conducting income tax audits of individual and pass-through entity tax filings. This work involves auditing the federal income tax returns of individuals and pass-through entities to determine whether amounts reported are accurately stated and carried to the corresponding Maryland tax returns appropriately and in accordance with applicable state and federal tax laws and regulations. The incumbent in this position will also be responsible for reviewing financial audits of various sources of digital income such as NFTs crypto currency etc. using various software internet resources artificial intelligence (AI) and open-source data.
Education: A Bachelors degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelors degree from an accreditedcollege or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.
Experience: Four years of experience performing financial and compliance audits of a State agency grantee business or other entity.
Notes:
1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a Masters degree in accounting from an accredited college or universityfor one year of the required experience.
3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for one year of auditing experience only.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
** For educationobtained outside of the U.S. you will be required to provide proof of theequivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluationservice. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States pleasesubmit a detailed course-by-course evaluation report from one of the evaluating members identified at OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Professional experience performing tax audits for a state or federal department of revenue.

- Familiarity with state and federal tax laws rules and regulations.
- Familiarity with generally accepted auditing standards.
- Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing methods and systems and legal business and accountingterminology.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel Outlook and Teams.
