FINANCIAL ANALYST
Location: Napa California
Schedule: Full-time onsite
A well-established and rapidly growing engineering organization is seeking a Financial Analyst to join its corporate finance team in Napa.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an early-career financial professional who wants significantly more exposure responsibility and growth than a traditional Financial Analyst position. Candidates need only two years of relevant experience but will have the opportunity to work directly with the Controller executive leadership project managers and operational leaders.
The Financial Analyst will help transform financial and operational data into meaningful business insights. Rather than simply producing reports this person will investigate trends analyze project performance build management tools and help leadership understand what the numbers mean for the business.
The position offers exposure to FP&A construction finance project analytics executive reporting tax compliance systems improvement and emerging AI and automation tools. It is ideal for someone who is analytical curious technically capable and eager to build a long-term career within a growing organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
FINANCIAL PLANNING AND ANALYSIS
Support the annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes
Develop financial models cash-flow projections and scenario analyses
Prepare financial analysis and reporting for executive leadership
Analyze financial results and identify emerging trends risks and opportunities
Translate financial information into clear actionable business recommendations
Assist department and operational leaders with financial planning and decision-making
PROJECT AND OPERATIONAL ANALYTICS
Analyze the financial performance of active construction projects
Evaluate revenue costs margins profitability backlog and forecast information
Support project managers in understanding project forecasts and financial results
Develop tools that provide project teams with better visibility into performance
Investigate budget variances cost trends and discrepancies
Combine financial and operational data from multiple systems and spreadsheets
Help leadership identify opportunities to improve project performance and profitability
REPORTING DASHBOARDS AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
Develop and maintain executive dashboards operational KPIs and management reports
Create clear and useful reporting for Finance Operations and executive leadership
Work with large financial and operational data sets
Extract and analyze information from ERP and accounting systems
Improve the accuracy efficiency and usability of recurring reports
Support the future development of a centralized financial-data repository
Use Excel Power BI SQL or similar analytical tools to organize and interpret data
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND AUTOMATION
Identify opportunities to automate recurring reports and manual processes
Participate in finance-system reporting and data-analytics initiatives
Evaluate the use of AI and automation within Finance Accounting tax compliance and Operations
Help create scalable processes that can support continued organizational growth
Research new tools and recommend practical improvements
TAX AND PAYROLL COMPLIANCE
Assist with monthly quarterly and annual state and local tax compliance
Support sales and use tax gross-receipts tax and other applicable filings
Research tax requirements associated with new project locations
Assist with registrations filing requirements and ongoing compliance obligations
Help respond to tax notices and support audits
Coordinate with internal accounting personnel external tax advisors and taxing authorities
Serve as a Finance and Accounting contact for payroll-tax administration
Monitor and reconcile federal state and local payroll-tax filings and payments
Support the annual W-2 reconciliation and correction process
Research payroll requirements when employees begin working in new jurisdictions
Deep tax expertise is not required. The company understands that this is an unusual component of a Financial Analyst position and will provide training and knowledge transfer. The successful candidate must be comfortable researching unfamiliar requirements asking questions and learning new areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in finance accounting economics business administration or a related field
At least two years of experience in financial analysis FP&A accounting project controls tax or a related discipline
Strong understanding of financial statements and fundamental accounting principles
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Ability to organize and analyze large complex data sets
Strong analytical research and problem-solving abilities
Intellectual curiosity and a desire to understand the story behind the numbers
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities
Willingness to research and learn unfamiliar financial and tax-related topics
Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-finance professionals
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Construction engineering or project-based industry experience
Construction accounting job-cost reporting or project-financial analysis
Budgeting forecasting and financial modeling
Executive dashboards KPIs and management reporting
Power BI SQL or another business-intelligence or analytical tool
Vista by Viewpoint or another construction ERP/accounting platform
Multi-state sales and use tax or payroll-tax compliance
ADP or another payroll-tax service provider
AI automation or financial process-improvement initiatives
