Summary:-
PLEASE NOTE: This is a 9 month renewable contractand needs to meet Client full-time conversion policies. Those dependent on a work permit sponsor now or anytime in the future (ie H1B OPT CPT etc) do not meet Client requirements for this opening.
Role Overview:The Financial Analyst III is a senior contributor within Sun Lifes Group Reinsurance Administration team supporting StopLoss Captive reinsurance programs.
This role splits responsibilities between:
Monthly captive reporting (accruals submissions and source file preparation).
Process improvement and workflow optimization for the Excess Reinsurance team including automation and AIenabled enhancements.
The analyst ensures accurate timely reporting in accordance with governing treaties and collaborates with internal partners (Reinsurance Accounting Finance Actuarial EBG StopLoss) and external stakeholders (reinsurers captive managers).
Senior analyst within group reinsurance administration/operations who supports Sun Lifes Stop Loss Captive reinsurance. Incumbent will split time between reporting responsibilities of the captive programs and process improvement efforts utilizing best practices to ensure timely and accurate reporting of values in accordance with the governing treaties. The position will support internal customers (e.g. Group Reinsurance Accounting Finance Actuarial etc.) as well as external partners primarily the reinsurers and their representatives. Additional interactions with the EBG and Stop Loss business areas will occur as needed to support the business.

Key Responsibilities:
Monthly Captive Reporting (First 10 Business Days)
Prepare monthly stoploss captive reporting including internal accruals and external submissions.
Manage assigned source files (primarily the captive policy list) during the first five business days of each month.
Apply treaty rules and business logic to validate and reconcile data.
Produce submission reporting by treaty year once financial close is complete.
Follow established checklists and documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Process Improvement & Excess Reinsurance Support (Second Half of Month)
Partner with the Excess Reinsurance manager to evaluate highly manual workflows and identify opportunities for automation streamlining or offloading to India Operations.
Review and improve existing documentation (currently 80 pages) to ensure clarity accuracy and usability.
Use AI tools (Copilot Claude) to brainstorm prototype and test workflow improvements.
Support Data Iku migration efforts as the team transitions away from Access databases.
Recommend and help implement redesigned workflows that reduce manual effort and improve turnaround times.
Critical must-have skills
5-8 years of insurance experience in a finance/actuarial/accounting/operations role Reinsurance Operations/Administration role experience.
Advanced Excel proficiency including complex formulas large datasets multitab workbooks and strong troubleshooting skills.
Solid understanding of reinsurance concepts including group ceded reinsurance structures such as coinsurance and YRT.
Ability to interpret reinsurance treaties and clearly understand the obligations and requirements of both the ceding company and reinsurers.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with large datasets including leveraging automation or AI tools to improve efficiency.
Comfort using AI tools (Copilot Claude) to streamline processes build prompts and support workflow redesign.
Required Soft Skills:
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy with the ability to see the big picture.
Strong analytical mindset with ability to see both the big picture and underlying drivers.
Confident inquisitive and comfortable asking questions and offering process feedback.
Must be able to work independently with minimal direction.
Strong written communication skills required. Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with foreign reinsurers captive managers and Sun Life management. Partnerships with Stop Loss Captive programs are high profile relationships within Sun Life.

Nice-to-have Skills:
1. Experience with Employee Benefits Group products (Life Disability Health StopLoss).
2. Familiarity with Data Iku SQL Python or R.

4. Actuarial student background or actuarialstyle analytical mindset.
Education:Bachelors Degree in Finance Business Actuarial Science or Mathematics
