JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Director of the Office of Sustainability Initiatives the Climate Solutions Fellow manages key communications and engagement programs and activities and contributes to the operation of Emorys Office of Sustainability Initiatives (OSI) with a focus on student engagement.
Collaborates with the Program Coordinator Assistant Director and as needed with the Associate Vice President of Sustainability Resilience and Economic Inclusion to engage students interns university committees and campus groups in fulfilling Emorys enterprise-wide sustainability vision.
Takes initiative to develop and/or implement programs that engage Emorys graduate and undergraduate student population in all nine Academic Units of the University.
In partnership with other OSI staff supports the administrative and programmatic operation of OSIs internship program including recruiting and hiring interns onboarding assigning tasks and activities facilitating meetings and other tasks as needed.
Develops coordinates and/or staffs most student engagement activities including co-managing the weekly Farmers Market and organizing tabling at Wonderful Wednesdays speaking to classes hosting other relevant events (Student Sustainability Showcase and Forum) and participating in other offices fairs convenings and events as appropriate.
Supports student engagement on OSIs key strategic plans and sustainability goals including the 2023 Climate Action Plan and Emorys commitment to reducing greenhouse gasses 50% by 2030 from a 2010 baseline.
Proactively seeks creates and responds to requests for participation in campus activities (e.g. class lectures student organization events etc).
Builds and maintains relationships with student organizations and relevant student-facing University offices.
Provides leadership and coordination of special events in which OSI has a primary role or independent participation (e.g. student orientation Sustainable Food Fair Earth Month).
Represents the sustainability initiative at school-wide forums and area sustainability committees.
Initiates and maintains relationships and serves as a liaison with various campus local and national groups.
Supports OSIs communications and marketing efforts including compiling OSIs weekly newsletter writing articles developing social media content and supporting the layout and design of reports and other deliverables.
Plans and leads meetings identifies priorities delegates action items manages campaigns and outcomes and communicates with the team about campus-wide efforts.
Contributes to Office of Sustainability Initiatives strategy communications and programmatic efforts.
Performs other related duties as required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Event planning management and execution (specifically student engagement tabling etc.)
Student engagement strategy planning and tactics (effectively deploying existing sustainability programs and student engagement opportunities as well as developing new opportunities)
Relationship and network development (specifically student sustainability organizations student-facing staff offices and departments)
Digital Communications and Social Media content development (developing content and graphics for use in OSI digital communications including newsletter and social media)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelors degree and some climate- and sustainability-related extracurricular training educational or internship experience.
At least one year of work experience in a professional setting is preferred.
Proficiency with MS Word Excel Powerpoint and a desire to learn additional software as needed.
Demonstrated proficiency in social media and related graphic design desired.
Experience working on campus sustainability and climate action initiatives is preferred.
Excellent communication outreach presentation and data management and analysis skills.
Collaborative team member who can also work well independently.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
